For the last couple of weeks I have been battling little black ants that have seemed to have invaded the roof space of my Jayco Hawk !, has anyone else had this happen ? and how did they rid their camper of the buggers, today i have proberly gotton rid of a thousand + by putting a bit of honey on top of the camper and drawing them out, then wiping them up and repeating the process . I would hate to think how many are actually in the roof. Help please !!

ant rid ?
Def use something they will take back tot he nest to kill the whole colony, and not just kill the visible ones.

I had the same problem with my old boat, they got onto anything vinyl and canvas and started a family. Small straw on end of Mortein to get into nooks and crannies

You really need to bait them as you can wipe them up all you like but unless you kill the queen they will stay for ever. The are granules you can get. We have a really bad Singapore Ant issue in Broome which love the taste of electric wire (Hence the QLD Mob call the Electric Ants) You have to bait them as well

Mate,one thing to rule out is any water ingress in that area. Ants in large quantities can be an indicator that water is getting in somewhere and rot may have developed in some timber component (does the roof lining have any ?). Ant infestations in caravans (those typically with meranti timber frames) often leads to a bad surprise. I suppose being on the roof you would have noticed by now with a watermark etc.

thanks for the replies all,baited them today, see how it goes. in regards to the water ingress, no probs there,all good

our soft floor was home to an ants nest as well....i pulled everything out and just sprayed and wiped....so far so good as i didn't see any last weekend.

A bit of surface spray. Some other good ideas have already been mentioned.

Just try and keep any sprays (surface etc..) off your fabric walls. Who knows what some of this stuff will do to the waterproofing.

have the same problem in our penguin we usually surface spray everything after a trip ,the light fittings tell me they are in the roof we left baits inside the light fittings hoping this will work ,good luck
