Another solar blanket question

I have read most of the info posted on solar blankets, tropical flys and silver tarps on myswag..........still deciding what to get...............

When we were at Minlaton last week came across these guys, has any one bought one off them ?

If you already use a blanket of any type and have now done so for sometime, and you leave it attached on

fold down .........how is it lasting ?? Any major wear and tear ??

Howdy hargs - Regret to advise that I know nothing about this product.

However.......I've been considering something (anything) to cope with heat inside the CT on really hot days. I have to say this looks (and reads) as a pretty good option to me.  :cheers:

I notice these guys have it sitting directly on the CT canvas, as do other ideas that I've seen. I wonder if this will result in rubbing of the canvas and is it the most effective way of keeping the heat out. Is that your concern too?  ???

It seems to me that the principle of the Tropical Roof is that lovely air gap to create an air flow and cooling effect. However, clearly this product can be extended over the roof on poles for the fly / tropical roof effect. But I'm as lazy as the next bloke and if I can get away with using less poles and just leave it on, then that's fine by me.  ;D

I'm interested in what your thoughts are and what others have to say.

The size is 2mtr x 3.5mtr for $300 !! They can custom make any size but would be expensive.

I found a large tarp the best solution as it doubles as an awning and you can angle it to keep the sun off the canvas.

A lot cheaper

Yes it's a lot of money but I'm thinking if I go with the tarp....I'll need to create an air space and that will require poles of some type and extra fidling around at each setup. As our CT is a Cub and a 1 minute setup without verandra....I'm not keen to change much.
Another thing I wonder about is the flapping in the wind of tarps....with this solar blanket I would attach to roof with extra clips if needed at windy times

If space on fold down is a problem with a solar blanket I am going to remove pillows and doona and store elsewhere, thats not a problem.

Air space seems not to be a problem ........as the solar blanket has air type things built in...

I have emailed for a quote for size 1.6  x 4.1 metres .....will let you know price when I get a reply.

 I would like to know the price as well as I have a Cub Spacematic. Thought about a tarp but this looks a lot lighter and seems to work going by the testimonials

Hargs,

We swear by ours, it was an option for the Pioneer.  We have 2 young kids, one still needing a daytime sleep so this allows that option.  Ours is a year old and looking fine.  If it did look like wearing in a few years I'd still get another and treat it a little like a consumable item, well worth it.

It opened our camper today so took the opportunity to take a few photo's or you.  The photo's were taken immediately after opening therefore the crinkled look.  It will settle after an hour.

We have one... came with the Challenge as part of the package.  Folds down with the camper and has been opened and folded down now well over 100 times. No signs of any wear yet. Makes a big difference in the heat too.  We also carry a large tarp which we can cover the whole rig - camper and annex with if it is going to p... rain.  I'm adverse to having to spend days drying the camper after a wet trip so the tarp is big enough to loosely peg and to set up or pack up the camper underneath it. 
Anyway may be worth checking if a ready made one from Challenge campers might fit your rig.
