Weber Q questions
« on: April 26, 2012, 09:18:52 PM »
So I know there are lots of threads about webers but I couldn't find the answer to my question.

I'm tossing up between the baby q 100 or the baby q 100e with thermostat. If I was to just get the baby q 100 is there anything I can use to check the temperature inside? I know you can get the weber digital thermometer but can this only be used for cooking meat? Like can you use it to just check the temperature inside the weber? Say if I wanted to cook cakes in there and need to know the inside temp but don't have meat to put the probe in.

The reason between the indecision is that rays have 26.5 % off tomorrow inc webers which makes the baby q quite a bit cheaper than the q100e which never seem to go on sale and can only be bought from specialist dealers.

BBQ ,s galore has the weber with the thermostat and higher hood while rays has the standard model.

Depending on whether you are cooking a large roast or not.

Evening. I'm sure there would be some sort of temp gauge you could integrate, but by the time you buy one you would be better off buying the 100e and by the Sounds of it it's important to you. If you can't afford it now you can always buy the lid later on and bolt it on as you can now buy them separately

I have a weber Q200 and have used it to cook most things from roast meat and roast veggies to pizzas, steaks and bacon and eggs, works great if you follow the recommendations that come with it or in the Weber cook book.

Have never had the need for a thermometer which are often a question of accuracy on any hooded BBQ.  The fact that I haven't had a failure yet is testament to the Weber product and it ease of use as I am no cook.

Cheers

I have the baby q 100e with thermostat fitted my father inlaw liked it so much that he went and bought one even though thy already had a baby q 100 with the small lid that one now lives in his caravan. And you can fit a big roast in the Q with the big lid make sure you dont get talked into the extra hot plate I just use a fry pan If cooking eggs.
The other thing we use is the trivet for roasts just fold some foil up and place under trivet so it keeps the direct heat of the roast.

Thanks! That's a great idea! I could get this and with the saved money upgrade to the q200 :D

To be honest you probably don't need the temp gauge. I have the 220 which is the temp gauge model with the larger lid. You cook steak chicken flat out and roasts on lowest setting. Perfect every time.

Hi,

Just reading this thread and thought I'd mention something.

I've got the Weber Family Q at home, amazing piece of kit. It to has the thermometer in the hood, which I think works really well. Awesome roast porks !

If you use one of the after market thermo mentioned above, you need to lift the hood to check the temp, thus lossing valuable heat. This inturns effect the cooking of the item in the bbq. If you read your booklet that comes with the Weber Q series it strongly suggests against this.

You can purchase a remote thermo which you stick into the cooking item and place the receiver some close to where you are, upto about 10 metres I think. This maybe a better solution.

I'd go with the model that has the hood thermometer.

Cheers, Scott

I've got the 220 with thermo but purchased it for the high lid because the thermo is only a guide imo. I cook bread in mine and take no notice of the thermo just cook it on high for a few mins then to low till cooked, comes out perfect.

Pizza stone
Vegetable basket
Cleaning brush
Weber cookbook
Apron and glove

Hmm yes I had thought of this, but I figured it's not really any different to checking your roasts etc when in the oven and I don't do that often. I mainly want the temp gauge to set the initial temp then it will be left alone to do its thing!

Actually the 1st person that served me at Rays had no idea at all, I knew more about webers than they did, it was a little frustrating. Then this other guy came over to help and he was on the ball.
