Where to live in Perth

Can anyone in wa suggest reasonable places to live in or near Perth ( either to rent or buy).

3-4 bedroom up to say $600k and within  30 min of the CBd.  Is the market still falling?

We are around 32 kms of CBD (Tapping) and the prices for a 4 by 2 are averaging $500k-550k.
We are thinking of moving more towards the CBD next year. Our oldest daughter is invited for synchro swimming training which is now at least 40 minutes away, without traffic.
Looking at Hamersley, Greenwood.

Meaning that ours could be for sale in a year.

I did some google distance averages for you..draw a radius of approx 23km from Perth CBS and traveling time is approx 30 min ( I would imagine peak hour would be more)..as I said approx (you can do the same on google earth draw 23 km radius from Perth and see the suburbs)

As for a 3 to 4 bedroom home under $600k no problem as long as you don't want to in say Claremont. Cottesloe. Applecross etc

There's plenty of choice within 30 minutes in your price range. And as for prices falling well there are many points of  view but at the end of the day you have just weigh things up but that said what is a FACT is that finding rentals can be real tight and hard at the moment.  Perth has one of the lowest vacant rentals available in OZ

Aw also as for good and bad suburbs
There's good in bad in all. Just look at Cotesloe and Scarborough , expensive areas and just as prone to crime as say waneroo and joondalup

You can get on the net and look at any of the suburbs along the rail line to Perth CBD if that is where you want to be working

From way down in Mandurah to up at Clarkson or out as far East as Midland you can get on a fast train and get to the city CBD

I lived at Midland, and traveled to Belmont, a distance of 14.6km (google maps) and on a good day it would take me 40Mins.

IMHO the worst part about Perth is the roads werent designed to carry so many people, all at the same time.

we used to have a place in Shelley, beautiful area (in our opinion), right on the river and close to the city, good rental returns there when we had the house there.

Dazzler, come to the hills, direct route to the CBD 30 minutes, and a great rea to live, search Kalamunda, Lesmurdie, Walliston.  Good schools and demographic and the housing is good for buyers at the moment, renal is always a premium as there is not a lot around.

Best place in Perth is about three and a half days drive east!

We live in Aveley, a relatively new suburb near Ellenbrook in the Swan Valley. We quite like it (as much as we can get excited about Perth!). it has great park areas, its all clean and new, there aren't too many derros living here (yet, except us!) and it's pretty close to the city (half hour or so). Also close to other amenities, Midland, Joondalup for big shopping centres and all most of the government agencies you may require. Less than half an hour to the airport. Ellenbrook also has a developing shopping centre (if thats your thing) that is getting bigger and bigger every month it seems. There's a new Masters Hardware store being built, will open mid year I think.

AND - hopefully you can buy our house soon, or we could do a house swap to beautiful Tassie. Why the flick would you want to move from there? If its for work, tell then to shove it and find another job!

Not sure where we will be moving to as yet but may make the move next year.  Sadly the work opportunities for my quals just aren't big down here.

West of the Mitchell freeway is expensive, between the Mitchell and Wanneroo is good, east of Wanneroo are the in my opinion lesser suburbs (no offence for those living there)

Having lived in all Aussie capitals, except Adelaide, I believe I can say living here in West Australia is a fantastic experience 

I made the decision to stay in West Australia and settled in Perth while I was on a 12 month round Australia holiday back in 1996, the lifestyle over here is just so casual and laid back without the hassles and sagas of living in the eastern state capitals, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
 
The population of Perth is increasing at a higher rate than any other state capital city for a very good reason

Those that leave WA have their own reasons, and I will respect that
as living here is not for everyone, particularly when you have all your relatives living back in the eastern states

i was born in Busselton and lived their for nearly 30 years........when i go back to visit family i can't see a thing that would make me want to live there now, if it was time warpped back to say 1975 I would move back in an instant.

I've spoken to the wife a couple of times about moving back west, if we did, i'ld be looking at my old stomping grounds of Belmont/Rivervale,  maybe as far south as Beckenham or up in the hills. I never did like it NoR

I read an article in the Australian that showed areas near the airport are increasing in value but the rest is falling. Airport suburbs are going up because of the FIFO workers.

I cant quite understand that mentalitly. Whats the point of living right near the airport when your FIFO, you only drive there and back every couple of weeks. You can live anywhere you please and right in the city would be my last choice.

On a side note we've only just moved back to Perth and Im looking at the eastern hills suburbs - kinda out of the city, but not too far away for the commute to work, which is what I want

We live on the beach side of 'the line' and on top of a hill approx 500m from the water with views of the ocean from Mandurah to Long Point but living in a sleepy old holiday town (which is a little bit busier these days).  Burnsy, Does that mean we have risen above "the hills" and have the best of both worlds??? 

Choosing the right spot depends on what compromises you are willing to make.  Our compromise is the commute to work, but our return is the quiet life and the water.  Every suburb has pros and cons.  Work out what you need the most and work back from there!

Our dream is still a 5 acre block with a Queenslander style house.
Problems are: my work is in the CBD, the school is in Kingsley and swimming will be in Claremont.

1/4 and half acre are pretty standard up the hill,  we are on 2000 m2, would like another 1000 or so though
