Pooh Bear's Corner
As Pepiman wrote...there's a small shallow cave on one of the bends - heading to the coast gives the best effect. The cave is (approx) 4' high, 2-3' wide, & 2' deep.
Not often mention in our war history, during WW2 the sth coast was a hive of activity for Japenese subs, with a few sinking of boats, & landing (for supplies) of jap soldiers.
Because of this, it was feared the Japs would use the mountain road to attack Canberra. The Gov lined the road with dynomite, ready to blow it if it they did land, thus slowing down the 'invasion' & giving our troops enough time to arrive & fight the japs back. The cave was used as a sentry shelter/hide/lookout warning post.
Jump ahead many years, & at some point, 2 of those round road-side post reflectors where put inside the cave (I don't know if it was by someone, or RTA/Council).
As you're traveling down the Clyde Mtn (Kings Hwy) towards the coast, if you had your headlights on, these reflectors would light/reflect, giving the impression of a pair of eyes inside the cave.
Now because Canberran cars rego plates all start with a 'Y', they've known by us on the coast as "yogis" - remembering, you get the best effect of the cave coming from the canberra side - someone at some point put a sign up naming it Pooh Bear corner.
Over the years, it's been popular for people to stop & place stuff Pooh Bears there.
Todays lesson was bought to you by the letters 'P' and 'B', and a warm and fuzzy feeling
