Jas, I prefer two singles too but the Missus, despite her complaints about me, prefers the idea of a double swag.  :-*

My thinking though is that women seem to function at a 5 degree difference to men and in a swag that could lead to a bun fight.  >:(

I have had a chance to look at some of your suggestions. Jason B that thing is the ducks nuts. And I don't reckon the price is too bad either........I even came across a Kamp Rite one that folds out on the same principles as the trailer. I am leaning toward a hooped one, no point using a roll out when you can be totally enclosed with a bit of space and I am bit older so a bit more comfort doesn't go astray. One thing I am wondering about though is do they all (mostly) come with PVC bases, and if they don't, should I go for a canvas base over PVC for warmth, strength etc or are the PVC bases as good or better?

Nomad to be honest my personal choice is a canvas base also, for no other reason than breathability. However the best swag I have ever used is the Southern Cross one. It has a PVC base (I would prefer canvas) but in totality with all things considered, it has the space and comfort I am looking for now I am older also. (I was 21 when I started in this job 17 years ago) I have taken it to a new level with the stretcher bed, I can not tell you how great it is to open up your swag, swing you legs out of bed and sit up with your feet on the ground, it is so much more dignified than crawling up off the ground. I also find that is summer you catch more of the breeze and tit allows air flow under the swag also. It also gets you away from the dust when out west.

With the Southern Cross (and a previous PVC based swag) I periodically remove the matress and check for dampness as they simply cannot breath out of the base like a canvas based swag can. This has never been an issue and the durability of the PVC has been very good even on a previous one that was just thrown on the ground all the time.

We have a double cot and its really comfortable.  Getting above the ground has its advantages!


x2 whilst not a swag very comfortable and I recommend having a look at them if you are considering using a swag on top of stretcher. I have an oversize single and use it when I go camping with the fella's, I copped a lot of s$%t when I first set it up but when the guys saw how fast it was to set up the banter stopped. Most of mates have now bought one of these when they needed to replace their swags. The only problem is they can be quite bulky when packed up, but swags and stretchers are bulky too.

Just my 2c ...

One of our blokes has a Tent Cot and appart from the constant and sustained ridicule he receives on every trip, it is a major PITA to pack in the vehicle due to its shape, and as it has a steel frame on corrugated roads etc the frame rubs through the fabric. So now it has little holes in it every where. They certainly don't stand up the way a swag does in a commercial enviroment.


What ever blows your hair back but they ain't for me.  8)

Two alloy poles that clip on and a spreader bar in the middle. I had a SC touring tent and they were easy to put up. But by the time you put your bedding in an get organised the swag would sh!t on it time wise and be 10 times quicker to pack up. The stretcher is an option and only adds about 1 1/2 minutes to a 5 minute process.

I have never been in that much of a rush to be in bed any faster than that.

I don't have a swag but own a Southern Cross camper and the quality of the canvas is all good no leaks. Does not get condensation in the cold. 5 year warranty

Kulkyne are doing a special on the super dome swags. Obviously they are imported as the deal is for preorders not arriving till end of June. The Queen is $339 if ordered before end of April. $50 deposit.  Even if its imported, it's seems a good deal.

Any chance i can have a bit more feedback on the Oztrail Double? They are going cheap at the moment and the kids want to come swagging with me.
Whats the mattress/canvas/Zippers like? Does is keep relatively dry and warm?
