More Quality TV on its way
« on: April 02, 2012, 08:13:17 PM »
Is it honestly worth owning a TV anymore? I'd hope someone would shoot me before I spent more than $500 on one.

Is this THE GENUINE BEST Australian TV can come up with? I mean, theres about 40mins a night on ABC or SBS, but look at other quality shows, Home and away, Neighbours, and 20394820394802348 cops/ambo/rescue shows are about it.

So, whats she going to do, walk around with her yar yars out for 30mins a night?

Quote
With the publicity storm surrounding Ten's reality offerings The Shire - which is currently in production - and Being Lara Bingle which is set to launch mid-year, it comes as no surprise that Seven also have a celebrity reality show in the works. What is shocking is that they have managed to keep it under wraps.

Seven have announced a fly-on-the-wall reality series with the working title Brynne - My Bedazzled Life, starring Brynne Edelsten.

Probably from the same geniuses who buy "unlikely Animal Friends 2" to show at prime time on Channel 7.

People must be watching this crap for producers to keep on making it

Yep, just what we need ANOTHER reality TV show, They cost bugger all to produce [compared to real TV], promote old has been celebs who can't dance, sing or anything else for that matter! - is there any wonder that AUSTAR is popular.

All AUSTAR would have to do to get 100% of the viewers would be to package their product on a "user pays" system - $80 odd per month is too much when you have to take a lot of crap channels when you just want sport. Say $xx's per month for say 100hrs of TV where you could watch ANYTHING - sport, movies etc etc. If you go over your allocation, you pay a bit more bit I would certainly sign up.

Considering the amount of reality TV they are flogging these days with anybody who is even remotely famous,  it could  be worst

E.G.

1.  Outback Camper Trailer  Adventures with the Kardasians.
2. Justin Beiber 4X4 Aussie Safari
3.  Paris Hilton verses Wild

Yep, I think it is a disgrace and a shame that our quality television actors, producers, writers, directors, makeup artists*, editors, musicians etc are all shoved aside for such rubbish television because it is cheap and quick to produce and supposedly garners ratings. However, we all really know it is about advertising and sponsors and money. Ultimately, its about money not entertainment.

How truly sad.

*My mum is a founding member of the Film and Television Make Up Artist's Guild of Australia. She has been in the industry for well over 40 years. How she is still in it amazes me, especially considering the lack of work for Australian professionals. Mind you, she is currently working for the ABC, still the only tv station producing quality tv and not reality crap, IMHO.

Gotta agree with that statement 100%.  On Sunday night I watched a terrific show about Australian history via it's fossils.  *Crow Noise* Brilliant.  And ABC's got Dr Who!  Love Gardening Aus and Landline too.

Yeah, but tonight the ABC's Australian Story was a program about Gina Rinehart that was made 15 years ago!
At least they admitted its age, but what an insult to the viewers.
Mind you, 4 Corners about forced marriages was very good. Nice to be reminded of the multiple benefits multiculturalism has brought us.
Cheers, Tony

whats worse is this year alone, they have axed 50 tv shows from aussie screens.
That means they killed off 50 'crappier' shows than what we are left with....
Idoiot box is really earning its name, i think they are trying to make society stupider.

They have?  Which ones?  I'm still seeing the same old .... same old.  They really could do with ditching some of those reality shows.  I'm over reality.  Give me "Camping Reality" any day.  The rest of it is just ... same old really.

I think what we need are more shows like:
The Leylands / Malcolm Douglas / The Bare Foot Bushie / anything with David Attenborough & critters in it /
and we need less of:
Reality Shows / Cop Shows / Talent shows / cooking shows / morning shows / after the news shows / game shows /

I do agree however, that the TV is sending our future generations a message and it's not "Go Camping because the outdoors/nature is actually fun".  Sad really.

i've always thought it was a ploy to make people pay for TV.....put absolute rubbish on the free to air and people are "forced" over to austar/foxtel or whatever

we had foxtel for years and watch the same stuff over & over. its been 3 years since we gave it the flick and i am certain if we watched it again today it would be the same repeats we had before.

the only way i would move back to pay tv is if i got to choose my own channels and not packages of what they think i want

but since that will never happen i'll stick to ABC & SBS and my DVD collection

Hi,
my favourite button on the remote control is the 'mute'.
I made up a remote 'mute' a decade or so before remotes were even available - the 'babble' is infuriating some times.
My next favourite button is the 'off'.

Went into town with one of the knowledgeable offspring and upgraded the old set to a digital, now there is even more well used bovine fodder available, but the disk recorder sorts a lot of it out very nicely.

cheers

I stick to a small handful of TV shows, don't mind lifestyle or documentaries, and over the years have built up an extensive DVD collection. Generally I don't watch much TV but when I do I like to hit my DVD library collection.

I would prefer to go fishing or a walk than stuck on the lounge watching the idiot box.

Lately I've been watching the box DVD set " Gourmet Farmer".

You can NEVER have enough zombie shows.

I stream Netflix to my TV via Apple TV, thousands of movies and TV shows to pick from and cheap as.  No need to watch the FTA crap

If anybody knows anyone who produces tv, I have a great idea for a reality show............

Hear me out before you knock it.....

I'd call it reality "politics".
Sure another "Yes Ministser"could be funny and "spin city" had a fleeting laugh or two, but this would be hilarious.

Imagine taking a politician and filming them on live tv while they try to live a life like a normal pleb.
Yes, go the whole hog, make them catch public transport or drive their own car in peak hour traffic.
Watch them try to fill up with fuel and have to pay with their own money!!!!!

Make them actually work in a real life job, such as nursing or as a plumber. Then make them go get their own lunch, no catering.
Have a boss yell at them and threaten to sack them if the screw up, not pay them bonuses for getting it wrong.
And if they do screw something up make them accountable instead of having a review or inquiry that costs someone else millions.

Then film them getting home with all the other plebs and having to cook a meal, buy bread and milk, get school lunches ready and iron the laundry.
Now a couple weeks of doing that on tv would be a hell of lot better than the other reality show "Why Bother"(big brother)

I'd pay money to watch queen juliar (No she doesn't deserve a capital) catch public transprt from Penrith to Sydney, then wait in a queue at Sydney airport and stand at the carasel to get her luggage.
It would be hilarious watching her pay for fuel and toll to sit in Sydneys most expensive car park (M2 tollway) for a couple of hours on a Monday morning.

Bring it on I reckon......

Now I just need to find a sponsor to fund it.
Does anyone know John Howards number?
