V8's in Townsville
« on: April 02, 2012, 11:20:34 AM »
Watching Symmons Plains on Sunday and got to thinking... the Townsville race is on on the final weekend of the trip. Now I know there's a bit of fat in the schedule at this end of the trip so the question is, is it feasible to be back in Townsville for the race on Sunday the 8th? Would need to in TVL by Saturday afternoon.
Is this do-able or too much of a stretch?
Cheers, John.

John

You can drive from Seisia to Cairns in 2 days and then its 4 hours to Townsville.

We leave Seisia on the Wed and you would be in Cairns on the thursday. Plenty of time.

That is what duggie and I plan on doing, I just booked our tickets yesterday.
We always stay at the Bluewater caravan park while we are there for the v8 weekend.

Hhmmmm.. Might be able to wrangle the back lawn at the mates place, if no-one else has already grabbed it. If I can't then I might book at the same place.

Is there transport from there to the race precinct? And I should be able to pick up General admission tickets at the gate?
Cheers, John.

We have our parking booked at the track, so we never use public transport.
I know some drive into town and park in the shopping centre ant then take the local buses.
I have never seen this caravan park booked out over the weekend, this is one of the reasons we stay there.

The Blue Water Caranan park is about 30 k's North of Townsville, nice and quiet, but in reality it is bugger all of a  drive into the race track from the caravan park.
cheers duggie. ;D

You say you have parking booked at the track.. How do I go about doing that? Is it available to anyone? What's the security like? Not too keen on leaving a 4B full of kit parked in the open all day.

Sounds like the Blue Water park might be the go though.
Cheers, John.

I pre book my parking, or rather my son-in-law does, it is the school beside the track, the security I think is pretty good as the parking area is beside the police base for the v8 race.

If you like I might be able to get the information on the parking prices, but no guarantees.

Parking booked. Pity they only do a three day pass though... Still, better than parking on the street, and we'll have the fridge close handy too
Cheers, John.
