And the Opposition are sooo good now, I don't think so. The stench of Labor was too strong to stomach again so people voted LNP. To be honest and IMO they are both shyt......Just people have not experience the LNP stench for some time and have short memories.
As has been said before, people didn't vote for the LNP, they voted to get Labor out. If the LNP had a decent leader they would have been turfed out last election, the only difference this time is they got a leader who is popular in the SE corner. And if you are popular in the SE corner you will run the rest of the state.
Sorry Symon, wrong again. It's not that simple. If the opposition are soooooo weak as they will be, come question time the LNP will not be held to any justification or rigor. Yes, they have the votes but with such a weak Opposition they won't have the intense questioning via the opposition to where, what and how......it is dangerous IMO having a Political party sooooo strong........
How is that any different when Beattie romped in with a landslide back in 2001? The opposition only had 15 seats then.
Labor never took any notice of the questions being fired at them from the LNP either! Ever seen footage of question time? It is a joke, and they treat it as such. Howard was a classic at doing it at the federal level, he would field a question, and totally ignore it when he gave his 'answer' - how could he do that? Because he controlled both houses at the time.
Like I said before, the problem with the QLD system is there is no upper house, so no 'double check' of legislation that comes through. This is why such major and controversial legislation (forced council amalgamations, asset sales etc) pass so easily up here - there is no system to keep the government in check.
Regardless if you are aligned to the left or the right, the opposition in QLD means nothing regardless if you have 10 seats or 44.
