The most aggressive drivers are in small cars...
« on: March 23, 2012, 09:49:05 AM »
According to the Herald Sun.

Quote
FEAR not trucks and four-wheel drives - the most aggressive drivers are in small cars.

.
 .
"Small car syndrome" is rife on Victorian roads, according to a study by car insurer AAMI.

Spokesman David Skapinker said drivers of two or three-door hatches and sedans were more likely to be aggressive on the road.

"Drivers of small cars are significantly more likely to gesture rudely and deliver a mouthful of verbal abuse towards another driver, and they're also significantly more likely to tailgate than drivers of larger cars," Mr Skapinker said.

"We've all seen them on the road, the little hatch or small sedan, darting in and out of traffic and getting upset when another driver either takes them to task on their conduct or for simply driving at the speed limit."

The worst offenders were women aged 18-24, as they were more likely to own a small car, the study found.

Drivers of small cars were also more likely to drive after taking illegal drugs and check emails and text messages while driving.

Nine per cent of vehicles on Victorian roads are small cars. Of their drivers, 35 per cent have made rude gestures to other drivers, 49 per cent have yelled and sworn and 20 per cent have become so angry they have tailgated another driver.

Student Shannen De La Motte, 19, of Bundoora, who drives a Mazda 323 Astina hatch, admitted it was tough to keep her temper under control.

"I get particularly annoyed with slow drivers, and those not paying attention at lights," she said. "I think small car drivers can be more aggressive because they can weave in and out of traffic."

I thought it must be about that time of the year for the media's annual 4WD bash...  Seems not this time!

I've said for 10 years or so that young female drivers are aggressive and thought less on the road, without wanting to stereotype it seems to be blonds that are the worst of the bunch. Unfortunately my wife never grew out of that stage.   ;D ;D

Of the 46 comments I read only 2 bashed 4WD, the consensus seemed to be on female driver bashing!

Seems ive been letting the team down, letting people in and not weaving in and out of traffic or tailgaiting and using my bluetooth......... I promise to try harder to be worse!  >:D

my personal experience on eastlink and monash agree with the results.

I got abused by some beast on there one day she was eating a bowl of cereal while driving with her knees...
I've lost count of how many are puttin bog on while driving, or feel they have the skills to drive at 150 in an 90 zone cause they have passed their test 1 hour ago.

I drive a tiny 3 door hatchback 120klm/day to work and back and i can confirm that 4wd's, commodores, falcons etc are the worst offenders for aggression towards me. I drive sedately but even if i'm doing 10klm/hr over the limit they must tailgate and/or overtake me. Doesn't happen when i'm in the jeep or the wife's larger family car.

cheers

Funny, only yesterday I was driving the wifes Aurion - (200 Kw of fury driven only by the front wheels - scary when you mash it) when I entered a country school 60k zone.  Same thing, cretin an a falcon assumes its being driven by some old F%&t pulls up behind at a great rate of knots, tailgates me and then pulls out to pass twice against oncoming traffic.   He hadnt been anywhere near passing me on the road prior, and certainly didnt after we left the 60k zone.

Just amazes me sometimes wat people do ???

EDIT; yeah, I kno- those that know me will say im an old F%&t allready. Point taken  ;D

Talking about young females putting on make up, whilst driving.  I always thought that it might have been a once off for most girls but to my surprise, I have seen the same ones day in, day out doing it.  I told my wife and she said I should be taking more notice of the road and not females in other cars  ???

Your wife is right onto you gadgetman.  Knows you better than you know yourself.  :cup:

As for the stereotype of young sheila's being shocking ... the only reason young blokes don't get this wrap is because their cars have already been taken and crushed ...  ;D

It's all BS I say ... who ever is just in front of me or just behind me are the worst drivers IMHO.  Too blardy slow, weaving in and out of the white link marks, up my Crackin with their shopping trolleys ...  >:D

My godfather was a merchant seaman.  A hard fighten drinken brawlen old navy bloke.

A fella following behind him kept leaving his driving lights on behind him so he stopped in the middle of the pacific highway, went to the boot, got out a tyre iron, walked back to the vehicle, now sandwiched between two cars and smashed his driving lights.

Fella in the car didnt say a word.

Now THAT is quality road rage

Same thing I feel like doing ever time I pass someone coming the other way who has their fog lights on in combination with their low beam (and sometimes high beam) headlights.

Off topic, but how car makers are allowed to sell new cars without a relay that ensures these lights are only able to be used in combination with parking lights is beyond me ???

For me the the worst offenders depend on what I'm driving.  I swap between 2 cars for work depending on what I'm doing that day, either a 4wd diesel Hilux ( a slow non turbo one) and a 91 Toyota Camry.  I average 120 - 150km per day, Melbourne outskirts, across town and in the CBD.  When in the Hilux I notice small cars weaving thru traffic and cutting me off and when in the Camry, 4WD's tailgating me...  Go figure?

x2 When I drive the Prado to/from work small cars cut in front of me. When I drive the missus Corolla 4wds and bogans in utes sit on my arse. I need to get off my arse and wire up the 'reversing' spot light.
I owe, I owe, it’s off to work I go…

Work - Outback
Play - Prado

small car drivers are the most aggressive for sure. i have had mostly big stuff like 4bys, v8s, 6cyl etc but a couple of rare times ive had rice burners. i found myself reving the dingers out of them just to keep them on boil and if some one threatened my momentum they copped tailgating or the big over taking moment where it looks like we where all gunna die. i find driving something bigger im more relaxed as power is ready at any time but i dont need to use it and they are more clumsy so you drive accordingly.
