I am a new member on the forum and saw your post when I searched for a camper trailer similar to mine.  I stay in Namibia (Africa) and bought a second hand 2000 model Jurgens Oryx about 2 years ago.  It has the following features:

Water Tank / 12V Pump / Level Indicator 60L
Gas Bottle & Regulator (x 2)
Bathroom - Pull Out Shower Handle & Pop Up Cubical
Battery System - 12V Deep Cycle / Charger / Level Indicator

25L Jerry Cans (x2)

Insect Screened Windows & Entry Door
Internal Cargo Ties Down Points

Berths 4

It sleeps 4 persons (2 on queen size fold out bed inside & 2 in roof top tent on draw bar).

I tow it with my Prado 3.0 GX Diesel and it tows like a dream even at 120km/h on good gravel roads.  I have done a few rough off-road sections with it and it performed pretty well in off-road conditions.

Let me know if you require any further info. :D

Hi Oryx,

Sorry about this off-thread post, but saw you are from Walvis Bay, Namibia. I had never heard of this place before, but a few weeks ago I found out I will be there in early Novemeber for ~2 weeks (for work).

Cheers

We hired a Britz 4WD camper that had the same Jurgens unit attached and I would say it would be almost identical to the ORYX. It was excellent and we did 10,400km across SA, Botswana and Namibia in it. We were so glad we did not opt for the rooftop tent option due to the close encounters with wild animals on the trip, one night we had a very large Elephant rubbing up against the side of the camper, it probably still would have done some damage to the camper if had wanted to but it felt much safer than a bit of canvas.
We lived in the camper for 5 weeks in some pretty rough places and loved it, actually we would have bought one if they had been available in Oz.
heres a pic of the Britz Trax that is basically a Toyota Hilux with a Jurgens ORYX on the back.

In what line of business are you? One of my colleagues worked in Perth for the past 6 years before he returned to Namibia earlier this year.  Contact me on my mobile (0811228612) when you arrive.  We can meet for an introduction to our local beer.

You are quite right. :cup: The unit on the back of the Toyota is exactly the same as the Oryx (less wheels and draw bar of course).  They also put it on the back of the Nissan NP300 pick up.  It is quite popular with the tourists doing self-drive safaris in Namibia (I actually saw one in town earlier today).

Hi Oryx,

I am a Chemical Engineer specialising in membrane technology for the mineral processing industry. I am over to run a small pilot plant at one of the Uranium mines in Namibia. My email address is listed under my rig picture on the LHS (3rd icon), I wouldn't mind asking you a few questions about the local area, but probably best off-line. Would be good to catch up for a local beer  8)

Cheers

I finally managed to get the hang of posting pics  :cup:. Herewith a couple of pics of my Oryx as requested.

Hooked-up and good to go:

Set-up with rally tent & view with kitchen (fold out bed is on the other side)

View from the back showing the fold out bed

View from the side showing the fold out bed and rooftop tent on the draw bar

Fixing a flat tyre on my Prado in the Skeleton Coast Park (Namibia)

Close up of kitchen set-up (we didn't use the rally tent on this occasion)

Enjoy!
