That sense of anticipation...
« on: March 09, 2012, 08:19:00 PM »
You know the one. When you are driving away from your house with the camper hooked up to the tug. The tug has a full tank of fuel and all the necessities for the trip like an esky full of beer are in the back. You are really looking forward to the holiday. It doesn't matter if it's just a weekend or a couple of weeks, but you are getting away and there's this sense of promise about what's coming and the anticipation that it's gunna be good. ;D

Young 19 year old blokes probably get the same feeling heading out for the night with a wad of cash in one pocket and some condoms in the other...  >:D

Well, I wanna ask when else do you get the same feeling?

I got it today when I came home from the home brew shop. I haven't brewed a beer for a few years. I'd just come out with a few bags of grain (malt), some yeast and some fresh hops. The aroma of the hops were wafting around the car on the way home and I got that sense of anticipation. Now I'm looking forward to taking some time out this weekend to brew up a beer from scratch, cranking up the music in the shed and probably blowing the froth off a couple of coldies along the way. :D

So, what given you that feeling recently?

Ahhh Tony, i know exactly what your talking about..... funnily enough the Mrs and i were parking the car this arvo outside a shopping centre and there were a few blokes carrying cartons of beer out of the grog shop, blokes from all different walks of life, some in business clothes some in tradies clothes....... i said to the Mrs... look at all these fellas, they all have the same looks on their faces... at the time i called it the "i've got a fresh carton" look.... these blokes were in a hurry, half grins on their faces.... and i reckon it's the anticipation you speak of that drives that look.......
To answer your question though....... i get the feeling you speak of...... everytime i'm putting the tinny in at the ramp....... most times when i'm convincing myself to buy that new rod/reel outfit........ and most definately every time, coming home to Aus from work.... i get a niggle of "that feeling" when i'm buying my duty free Rum , i get another niggle as i'm crossing immigration and customs :police:......... and not long after i get home,,,,,,,,,,,,, my darlin' wife gives me "a certain look" ..... and that sense of anticipation you speak of near on gets my heart going like a jackhammer!!!!! >:D ....... ;D

I brew beer myself, only do the kit jobs, no messing around and quite drinkable.  If I want to fiddle with the mix I use different sugar etc for different results.

That feeling you are describing happens when it is time to crack the new keg.  Will it work?  Is it off? Did I get the gas right this time?   Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Normally its just .....  Don't mind that, let's do something in the camp oven tonight.  Two hours later, a little but pissed, that feeling comes on again.  How is the Chook/ corn beef/  pork roast?

If tea goes REALLY well, AND the kids are tired and in bed early, AND I wash up, AND the minister is not tired/ shirty/ busy/ on the phone, maybe, just maybe....  there it is again.

I don't know if it is the same thing, but it is definitely anticipation.  My wife and youngest daughter (24 yo) have just gone to Broome so that the girl (daughter) can have her baby.  I am waiting in anticipation to hold my newest grandchild in my arms.

One that I distinctly recall is when I looked in the rear view mirror & the camper trailer wasn't where I expected it to be. Ahhhh!!!!!!

I was at home and preparing the CT for an around Oz trip and thought I'd do some final checks.
* drove facing slightly uphill on our concrete slab
* unhooked the CT coupling gear
* gently drove forward a few feet to disengage CT
* looked in the rear view mirrow...............where's the CT?  >:(
* oops........who forgot the handbrake?  :-[
* got out of the car & saw the CT up against the house  :'(

The CT had ended up resting gently against a concrete step at the entrance way to the house & no damage what so ever. We left to travel the next day.

But it could have all gone so differently.
# down the concrete slope building up speed
# smash through the double glass doors of the breezeway & out the other side
# air born off the patio & down the slope ending up 300 meters later in the creek a mangled mess
# no around Oz trip & the Missus barking in my ear for years, with of course no come back

Needless to say I check the handbrake. Lots!!!

Hi Parry
Believe me, there is nothing like the feeling of holding the first grandchild for the first time.  Make sure you have the video camera and still camera handy, such memories should never be lost.

Leaving on a road trip before the sun is up always does it for me. I hope we experience that again soon. Having the kidlets always feels as though we're leaving at lunchtime :/ It will get better as soon as (.)(.) is no longer the favoured food source I think!

Besides the obvious anticipation of leaving home to go camping I love the anticipation of buying new toys or gadgets especially if it is something that needs installing or you can interact with when it is ready. I know it's sad but I live a simple life!

I also love starting a new project and even more so when it's finished and you can finally put it to use.

Another one for me is the start of a Motorsport race. I love most forms of Motorsport so to sit down and wait for the start gives me the same feeling, likewise going for a big days riding on my dirtbike.

The last time we had some work done on our Trackabout, JT [I think] mentioned that one of their CT's, just after delivery, was seen travelling at speed by itself down a hill on a 4 lane streatch of of road in Brisbane...luckily for the new owner, it didn't do too much damage!

And following that up with your first good hard paddle in. Going in low, fast and deep and just waiting for the lip to feather over your head.

Now that is a sweet setup. I've got a 110 litre boil capacity, I just need the hot liquor tun and mash tun to match.

I've got 9 x 20l kegs, but only 2 of em are full.  :'(
