How disgusting it was to see that channel TEN having news reporters if you call them that making fun of our VC hero soldier. These people should be sacked and the show axed. This man fights for our country and our way of life. He is a real hero.

I don't think it matters if he is a VC winner or a homeless kid on the streets. You shouldn't bring anyone down that way. They've apologised now so we all move on.

The lack of respect that was shown was not good, if they were in my class at school would they hear about it if they spoke about anyone like that!!!! Our class motto is to encourage each other daily and to use our words to build each other up not tear them down. Maybe I need to send the journalist our class motto

I am not going to bring myself down to the level of the reporter by denigrating anyone. I will express my extreme gratitude to Corporal Roberts'Smith for his service and gallantry to our country, and our freedom. The same goes for all our service people.

The only distingushed person in all this? Cpl Roberts-Smith VC. All service personnel should have our utmost respect, for doing what a lot of us dont have the stomach to do. To do what he did, shows a selflessness that is sorely lacking in todays society.

Three cheers for Ben. What a wonderful hero for us to look up to. Saw his interview the other night and was so moved by his courage, compassion and dedication to his service to our wonderful country. How proud must his wife be and his beautiful little girls as they grow to know what an amazing Dad they have.

Didn't see the other show being mentioned - only what was reported on the news tonight. Am thoroughly disgusted. I know we are known for taking the micky out of people, but that is really out of line!!

Anyway, thank God we have people like Cpl Ben Roberts-Smith looking out for us. A true hero. Well done mate.

Hold on folks.

They have apologised, repeatedly. Cpl Roberts-Smith has accepted their apology. How is it you are all more outraged than he? You are all now giving life to an episode that was disrespectful and unworthy, but has passed. Let it go.

Let us not fall into the trap of thinking that evening television is the true measure of our society; it is not. Or at leats I hope it is not. It is generally banal, shallow entertainment(?) for the unthinking.

I long for the days of James Dibble and Brian Henderson, when news was delivered with dignity, and the trivial and minutae was reserved, occassionally, for the closing 30 seconds of the program.

Shock jocks, the 24 hour news cycle and cheap tabloid newspapers have degraded reporting. Demand higher standards, but apply them to oneself also.
