Pet hair in the tug and CT

I was just looking through another thread and wonderful photos of all the pets that travel the roads "Camper Trailer Owners... Canine Photos". Makes me wonder how other campers keep that pet hair at bay. We have a sticky rubber roller that works a treat and cover for the seats.....oh and daily grooming away from the camp site. I am sure my dog (Melvin the Bull Jack) sheds anough hair weekly to make a felt cap. How do other dog owners handle this problem?

I use a roller brush to clean the carpet in the ute, haven't had my dogs in the CT so not sure about it, but we take a 12v vacuum camping so that we can clean our swags before packing (ask the wife why, I've never worked it out :D) so I figure that should be good enough in the CT too...

Yeah, similar approach.

Have a roller brush and use vacuum on Tug seat covers.  SHMBO has also just purchased a "Pet hair removal" glove/mitt that Im gonna try out next.

In the CT K-Dog has her own bed mat that sits next to the door.

Cross 1 Border Collie with Neoprene seat covered you can see the hair jump across like a magnet  (like shat to a blanket)  ::)  got one of those cotton/canvas type dogy seat covers which is no easier to clean but keeps most it the hair of the seat, The Dyson works well at taking care of the rest at home  or dust buster if away and have power to recharge it.

In the Panda it's not to bad vinyl floor and she sleeps on a mate under the table.

Often say I'm going to vaccum the dog  >:D   seriously  Dyson have a dog brush attachment  ;D   yet to try one though

We have a dog seat cover in the car,  and she's supposed to sleep in her crate on the floor,  but as you can see, it doesn't always work out that way ???

We used to have a Dalmatian who had short white hairs that got stuck in almost any fabric . He went to doggy heaven and we got a Border Collie . He's got long curly hair that doesn't get as embedded in fabric but it's harder to pick up . He has his own blanket which does a reasonable job of catching his hair and when the trip's over the blanket gets shaken out .

We have a mini poodle don't shead hair which is cool no hair in the ct or tug, but we did have a British bull dog she has been gone for 2 years still miss her and still see her hair around which is ok cause it reminds me of her she was a great dog  RIP  Gloria miss ya.

In my Pulsar, I have a dog seat cover, but it's like tits on a bull.  So I bought a Dyson.  I vacumn when I feel like it.  The dash mat is like a hair magnet.  When I brush my Collie (scotch smooth coat) I use a shopping bag to collect it ... how many felt hats do you want?  We are talking pillows and doona's here ...

In the ute, we have a Dog Box on the tray we just got professionally made to our specifications.  He HATES dog hair in the carpets.  Before the Dog Box, we used a king sized bed protector tucked here and there to assist in the hair collection process, which he says worked fairly well, but not good enough for him. 

Then there is the "Puppy Noses" one must continually remove from the windows.  He wouldn't wind the windows in the back down for fear of getting dog slobber in the window wells, so we always ran the air-con ... so his Rotti wouldn't drool down your arms and all over the centre console as well as the windows.  With the Dog Box, they can slobber, bark, fart, snore, run their nose up and down the connecting window and drop hair until they kark it and we don't have to vacumn anything.

In the CT, they all have a Dog Pillow they sleep on (did I mention we have 3 dogs) and we can sweep the floor once they are outside.

I don't care how much fur they leave behind because it can be cleaned up, i think it's not a camping trip without the fur kids.  ;D

A disposable rubber/surgical glove brushed over the surfaces where dog hairs are stuck, such as upholstery and car seats - and the static makes all the hairs gather nicely together.  Grab the lot in the glove and chuck it all in the bin. Problem managed  ;D

Ha ha! We are a family with a long history of blue and red heelers.  Blues are classic.  If you have a light coloured surface, all you can see is dark fur. If you have a dark coloured surface, all you can see is the light grey fur!!! Damn that speckled colour!

we have used an old trick - rubber dishwashing gloves.  I knwo it doesnt seem like it will work but pulled the husky's hair straight out of our marine carpet.

Love the pic... the question is.. what breed is the dog... just reminds me of our dogs camping.... especially in the cold....

Stozz and welchygq - It works, :D never tried the glove before. I used the disposable surgical kind, then after gathering it up, as you take it off, it turns inside out with the hair inside. It pays to ask, great tip.

Kit_e_kat9, I meant a small felt cap for the moon.

I can relate to all short hair dog owners, with ours the white hairs show up on dark colours and the black on light and being a tri colour of course the brindle shows up on everything.

We give the pugs a brush with the furminator before taking them out which ensures as much loose hair is removed as possible.  Also have one of those portable handheld dysons which keeps the Ultimate fairly clean.  Having said that, pug hair is notoriously difficult to get rid of, so after a while you just learn to live with the hair.

Yes we have that problem in our CT, and the ACD dog passed away 3 years ago.  A couple of hairs pop up nearly everytime we go camping.  cheers rellbell

Hey Sharshebelle1

Just be cautious of wasps & bees.  We lost our last pug to an anaphylactic reaction to a bee sting.  Got her to the emergency vets within 30 mins but she died 3 days later :(

Pugs and bees don't mix.  First sting is usually isolated, the second can be fatal as we unfortunately found out.
