tyre choice?
« on: February 23, 2012, 07:32:05 PM »
Hi all  :D
I'm unsure if this has been brought up before but I would like some input into what tyres I should get for my 200 Series Landcruiser Sahara.
I currently have 285/60/18's and am disappointed I can't get BF Goodrich as the previous 2 sets I had on my 100 series were fantastic!
I see in USA they have 285/65/18, will these be ok?
Cooper's or M/T's are my only real option here but can't find the exact same size???
Going to find a dealer here on the gold Coast and see what can be done but just wondering if anyone has same tyre sizes?

Cheers all,
Mayney.

The BF in that size won't be a problem mate. They can run can 305/60R18 (33") on them ATZ 4rib with a different rim and can't imagine it being an issue with the standard rim either

Thanx Black Diamond. Gotta find a dealer now!

The current tyres are the stock Dunlops on the back and Yoko Geolanders on the front, it's what the car came with when I bought it and they look like mini tyres on a haul pac with the GVM upgrade I have.
Need a tyre with good height/profile.

Mayney,
I've just returned from Surfers and can recommend a dealership there
they are sourcing 6 x (larger alloy) rims & AT tyres for the Ssangyong

( will admit upfront a business connection )

phonetically could be Mayney  ;D

Mayney - for the CT get a second hand one, you won't regret it   :)

I got tyres in from the US with www.tirerack.com - worked out well but you can get caught out with the currency conversion and out customs.  However the range is a lot bigger.

Thanx guys, just got fitted Coopers AT3 275/65/18 and they look great with the white lettering out on standard alloys against a black car. Heading to the Coff coast this weekend for a couple of weeks to Port Maquarie so shall put them to use and see how they go.

Cewilson- still looking mate. Have been on the missus for 5 months now to plan a holiday and she decided this week was it...I forgot the caravan and caping show was on The Goldie this weekend!!! >:(

Mayney,

The Trackabout dealer up here had a brand new Safari Extenda in their shed. Not sure if they've still got it, but it might be worth a shot if you're set on one. Tolga Traders, at Atherton/Tolga (surprisingly).

Bit of a drive for you, but nothign the big 200 wouldn't eat up. Heck, given that it's a Sahara, you'll probably arrive more refreshed than when you started! ;D ;D

Good luck - glad you've got the tyres sorted.

Cheers!
Matto :)

Thanks for the info Matto but after long exhausting researches I finally decided to order a new Ultimate Xtrk... Stoked!
After what was supposed to be a 2 week trip to Coffs and Port Maquarie we managed to bypass those towns and drive straight through, non stop (love the Sahara 200 LC) 23 hours to Melbourne in time to go straight to the  Formula 1 Grand Prix on the Saturday and Sunday. We then decided to mosy on down the Great ocean Road, then across to S.A via the coast on our way to Adelaide...haha crazy but fun!
Got some awesome pin stripes on the Black Sahara now after the tracks from Beachport to Nora Crema, it's sad to see such devastation to such a pricey car but I guess you get that! They should buff out.
We moteled it everywhere and treated ourself to some luxury accomadation in some stops but I won't do that again...waste of coin really.
I really recommend the beach tracks around Robe and Beachport in S.A. Lots of fun, going to go back there with camper and tinnie as the crays are too expensive and the fishing for Snapper off the beach is awesome.
As for the tyres, did roughly 10000kms in a month and they were great EXCEPT...the amount of stones these tyres hold Shits me. I was forever prodding the stones out for fear of wearing a hole.
Planning a trip around Oz, starting by making our way up north during the dry. We are in no rush and if i can score a job in a mining town somewhere, all the better.
 Cheers,
Mayney.
