When traveling away to your favorite camping location the experience isn't always about getting from A to B in the shortest route or the quickest time.
One of the parts of the getting out there on the road isn't the destination but the actual journey it self.
Over the years of traveling / camping around Australia I found myself detouring to local haunts on a regular basis. Sometimes these little detours might be for photo opportunities, nice food, historical reasons, bizare / weird / funny reasons or the simple fact it might be a turn off down a track I haven't explored before.
Examples of favorite detours include:
Light houses along the Eastern Coast. When traveling South down to Vic I love to stop in at Kiama or the famous Berry Donut Stand in the Shoal Haven district South Coast.
I also have my collection of favorite free camping and fishing spots, fossicking locations and farmers who didn't mind a visit and let camp on their property while traveling through.
I find it quite amusing at the amount of oversized tourist themes in various towns which usually start with the words " the big ......" I've seen the big mozzie, big prawn, big guitar, big Dutch clogs, big prawn, big chair, big cow, big banana, big pineapple the list goes on........
Sometimes the journey is more exciting than the location.
