North Queensland Camper Trailer Manufacturers/Dealers
« on: February 19, 2012, 06:45:35 PM »
G'day all,

I have done a few searches both on here and google... with bugger all results. My question is, are there any CT Makers in the North Queensland area these days?
Also I guess, where and who are agents for the multitude of CT's made down in the southern end of the state/country?

Anyone know of any, maybe someone just kicking off??

Surely not every North Queenslander is on permanent holidays??..... Must be someone out there who works?? ;D

Barrabart,

You've got Tolga Traders on the Atherton Tablelands, who were the dealer for Trackabout. Not sure what will happen with their stock or if they will become dealers for another manufacturer. Other than that... I don't know of any other manufacturer or dealer up your way.

Bartel trailers. Make their own trailer and a local canvas shop makes the tent from memory.

G'day mate.
My cousin just had one made by Bartel Trailers in Townsville, and Beehive canvas did the tentwork.

Good luck

G'day all,

Thanks for the info..... thought it might be a good thread to have on here....... as you don't hear of much of this type of business up this end of the state..... really doesn't appear to be too many places at all outside Brisbane. One of very few negatives about living this far north.......... every where else is so far away..... but the Cape is close, so i can deal with that ;D

Anyway, if anyone knows of any places, chuck ém on here.

If you go into the Extenda thread, I put a link up with all the manufacturers in Australia, it's from Campertrailers.org website.

AS you've found Barrabart, there's not really anyone left here as far as manufacturers go.

A few of the trailer places (Tailors, Warpac, etc) will stick an OzTrail top on a custom trailer for you if you poke them enough. But if you wanted to go down that path it'd be cheaper/better to get them to just build the trailer, then fit it out yourself. It's not hard to bolt a top onto a tub, install tanks/kitchen/batteries, and so forth. That's pretty much the path my brother went down - he's handy with the welder, and it let him build the exact camper he wanted for not much money.

As far as proper camper trailer sales though, I think you're limited simply to the resellers and agents around town. You already know about Tolga Traders, Jayco are down your way at Edmonton now, and that's about all I know.

The other option would be to talk to someone like Rockman about the guys who've custom-built his trailer, see if they'd be interested in doing another job. But his doesn't really have much canvas work - if you wanted a full fold-over soft-floor it might end up too expensive by the time you pay for custom everything.

Do you know if the guys at Tolga still have that Trackabout Extenda?

Good luck!
Matto :)

G'day Matto....

No mate i don't know if the Extenda is still up at Tolga......

Regarding this thread though, i thought i'd post it as a general info type thing for myself and anyone else wondering the same thing.... seems the south east of the state is where it's all at with regards to the bulk of the manufacturers..... which is what i expected, but thought i might get a suprise and find some new mob making CT's closer to home....... seems bugger all though..

For myself though, the thought of going down the "make your own" CT, really doesn't appeal that much........ top stuff to anyone that does make their own, i reckon thats great for them...... for me though, i'd rather buy the tried and proven whether that be new or second hand.....

Might catch ya next time i'm home........ see if seeing your CT in the flesh can whet the appetite.. or flex the bank account..... .. probably pay to bring the Mrs too..... though she does already want a CT as well........ just that horrible things like educating offspring have attacked the funds of late...... don't know why my kids can't be like i was and avoid school with a passion!!... The eldest one loved learning so much she's now furthering her learning at bloody Uni!!!!..Heaven forbid!!.... Think i'll have to sit them down and have a serious talk with them ;D ;D ......

Catch ya later!!

Yep...... seems to be true....... though who knows, i imagine someone still has all the gear they were using to make the CT's...... someone might be lying in wait to strike back with avengance......... By all reports they were / are a top bit of gear.

Feel free mate - will be good to catch up. Pop round one Saturday arvo, we can set it up and have a look over it over a couple of quiet drinks. Probably a bit easier than having a salesman hovering over you. Your Mrs can have a chat to mine - J was probably just as keen to get ours as I was to be honest. There was no way she wasn't getting that stainless kitchen.

To tell you the truth, I'm itching to get back out and use it again asap. Circumstances have dictated that it's been about 5-6 months since we were able to get away last. If I can't go camping again soon, people will start confusing me with D4D...

Although if the weather is anything like it is today, you'd better bring your raincoat. Belting down outside at the moment (finally).

Cheers!

Sorry to bump this oldish thread.

http://www.flyingfishcampers.com.au are Austrack agents. Apparently have an Extreme in stock at the moment ($13k).

http://www.fnqtrailers.com.au/ sell basic CTs with Oztrail tops. They only had a little on-road one in a few weeks ago, and to me, the build seemed a little rough. I don't know if they build them or source them from somewhere else.

Tailor's weren't interested in doing a custom trailer build. Went as far as saying they'd put a couple of gas or jerry can holders on, but generally won't go beyond their basic builds.

Warpac said they'd build anything I wanted. Just bring all the details in (drawings, wishlist, whatever).

Another one for the list. Spotted these guys as we were driving out to Edmonton yesterday. Looks like they do hard floor campers. The YP advert shows they have a domain, but there's nothing on their website.

see Jayco Edmonton had a customline (prob 2nd hand) for sale..
