Does this seem weird to you??
« on: February 14, 2012, 04:31:05 PM »
I got my new work ute (a 2wd petrol hilux) on Thursday, and it's already due for it's 1000 km service. So I called the local Toyota dealer to book it in, no worries but then they asked me if I wanted the oil and filter changed as it is not part of the first service. We have to pay for the oil and filter. Has anyone else came across this?  I thought that oil and filter change would be required to remove any contaminants through manufacture and running in.
if i dont need 4wd, i ain't going!!!

No mate that is consistant with the advice and treatment we get with our fleet of Toyota's. Essentially it is a saftey check only, to make sure nothing is going to fall off and kill you or some one else. They don't change the oil or filter as part of them anymore.

It's normal for car companies these days as they don't want to do anything they use to do anymore as it cost them and they want the buyer to pay.  Being like most car yards bet they really don't check anything.

That service is a waste of time, unless you've got issues you want to raise. I'd skip it. New engines are run in and so the oil doesn't need changing like it did in older vehicles.
