Gday from sunny QLD
« on: February 05, 2012, 07:22:06 PM »
Hi there,  I have been "following" this forum for a while now, and been a bit shy with the posting.  There is SO MUCH information here - it is now my first "go-to" for just about anything I want to know CT and 4X4.  Thank you as you are all so generous with your time and expertise.

We have an ancient Maverick 1990 Diesel that we have had for 22 years and just used tents....but I think I must be getting old, and the thought of dragging all the stuff in and out of our box trailer, in the middle of summer, in the middle of the day, every time we wanted to go camping...ugh!  stuff that!!

So last year we caught the CT bug, and after scouring this forum and the trading post, we found our new baby - a Lifestyle 360 Platinum (we think) 2nd hand and have been absolutely thrilled with it.  We have done a few short trips, and have not found a problem with it yet.

I am in research stage of our first big trip - to the Corner Country - in the June/July hols.     I have already found quite a lot of info on this site, which makes my life sooooo much easier!! But I must admit, I will be asking some dumb questions between now and then!

I'll have to get cracking and post a pic of our baby...

If at first you don't succeed...do it your wife's way! :P

We love to go to Burrum Heads as it is closer for us, not that far away from you, well not far as the crow fly's...  or as a fish swims.  ;D

Welcome Gonefishing,
I hope you enjoy your time here.

Remember the old saying "the only dumb question is the one you didn't ask"
Many of us on here have spent heaps of time around the Corner Country, so ask away.

Cheers

Hi gonefishing

What part's of the Corner Country are you looking at visiting?  I grew up in the Channel Country of SW QLD - absolutely magic part of the world out there.

Thanks everyone!  I have been doing a bit of homework for our trip. We are looking at heading from Kingaroy (with our trip partners) heading straight to Charleville, Birdsville, (Haddon Corner maybe if it is worth the detour) down to Innaminka, Cameron corner, Tibooburra, Broken Hill, Bourke, St George, Dalby, Home.  Do you think all that is doable in 2 weeks?  I would like to see Lake Eyre since we are in the vicinity, but not sure about travel times over these roads.
Cheers

Most of the outback roads you can average 60-80 km/h on. But this can vary from year to year and road to road. One track we took last year from Innaminka to Tibooburra to 4 hours to do 100km.
Not sure about your travelling times from Qld. but the rest does look manageable. Lake Eyre is a bit out of your way, best to save for another time.
