One of the things I like about Pat Callinans show is that he is sensible on the way he treats the environment (not tearing the tracks up like these guys) and he is conscious about safety when doing recovery.

I just bought a heap of the All 4 Adventure DVD's.(but to be fair... I get almost everyone's DVD's)

Love the show. Jason and Simon come across as two Aussie blokes havin' some fun. And if (when?) they get into trouble... they get themselves out again. (with hardly a mention of the brand of winch, recovery strap, tyres, vehicle, bullbar, sunglasses or hat used in the recovery...)

Regarding the "Pat in the Hat" though... while his show may be more "sensible"... (and boring as batShit to me personally) his "recoveries" are almost always 100% staged to promote his sponsors. (wouldn't want to get his RM boots dirty and his permanent press shirts wrinkled eh...) FWIW... I also have a bunch of Pat's earlier DVD's too... (but never watch them anymore). And don't get me started on his Unsealed magazines' recent glowing "review" of the new 2017 Amarok... apparently it can do no wrong. (surprise, surprise... VW is also his major sponsor)

But back to the All 4 Adventure show... two blokes... having some fun. (the recent shows are considerably more toned down compared to their earlier stuff)

And to be clear... they're on 8 years plus and counting doing shows now.

I love the show as they do push the limits and for me personally that makes exciting TV. I did have a laugh to myself when the other week they found a hole/tunnel and parked right on the edge so they could use there winch to lower themselves down the hole.

Then towards the bottom of the hole the wireless winch controller started losing reception.  (Even though they would have had the cameraman still on top, still makes for fantastic TV and they have much bigger balls than me)

It amused me when the camera man has handed them the camera. I reckon he was thinking "if you blokes think I'm following you into a half caved in mine shaft, you've got rocks in your heads".

edit> Just realised I've mixed up two different episodes. I was thinking about the mine shaft one, rather than the cave they used the winch on.

It's a great show and great entertainment. I think they strike a great balance between being respectable but not over the top ala Pat. The places and ww2 wrecks he researches and goes after are great and of course a few scrubs and trees will get the "good news"  but iam  sure there's a few others left standing. Best 4wd on tv by a fair margin IMO
Here for a good time, not a long time!

What ever happened to natural selection?  Yep maybe standing on a winch rope whilst under load is not the safest thing to do, but if said person that copies has not got the brain power to understand the dangers maybe they will learn.

Ahh the nanny state we are living in.

In the case of the standing on the winch rope, I think they should have written a 4 page report on the possible dangers associated with the recovery, submitted, waited for the OHS officer to come and rule on the possible dangers, resubmit, wait for final approval, then attempted the recovery but not before blocking the track a couple of kilometers in either direction in case of oncoming traffic.

Yeah I have no prob with the A4A boys. Good entertainment and funny. Unlike the drunken old roothy and his paid mates or boring as crap pat. Man I fall asleep in the opening titles of his show.

^^^  x 3....   ffs  these clowns are "promoting" this behavior by defacto...

Even on the most simplistic level - (that being of their own self preservation); one would have hoped they would have done better....  (Not to be standing on a winch cable as its under tons of load...  wtf)...

And by "preservation" I am not talking about their mortality and life and limb either - (even though that ought to be self evident, lol)....

As tv producers - I am talking about the preservation of their show; their sponsors; their incomes; their professionalism; their credibility; and of the thing they love doing; etc...)

actually... give the Low Range guys a fresh chance. They replaced Roothy with Ernie Dingo and blow me down... it's a  totally new show.

Sure, Glen(o) and Ken(o) are still there, but both of them have cleaned up their "acts". (acting less like idiots and more like people)

Plus, Ernie brings a totally different perspective to the show. With him around... it's like the other two have "grown up".

I can see the winch bit was done for the show, but really all that was needed was a spotter and he would have driven out of the hole without all the drama.

sadly to many people think everything must be done this way these days...whilst I don't condone what he was doing standing on it, it's hardly string em up material. Want a laugh, go have a look on OE forum to see how some keynoard warriors are going on about the guy who punched the roo, I swear they are forming a posse as I type to hunt after him...just they won't be doing it with dogs, that's a big no no....lol

I know right... I couldn't believe it either.

Even my wife likes watching it now.

Hell... she even wants to visit the Kimberly now... and all after watching the last Low Range DVD...

ok, so you still have to put up with them dragging an MDC caravan all over the place... but still.

I don't care too much about their antics, though given how many tom dick and harries will watch it and think it's safe to stand over live straps, or be nearby when recovering using a snatch, it's irresponsible. I experienced it the weekend just gone take some guys out for an easy/medium drive, then they wanted to do hard tracks, saying they had all the gear etc. Took them to a hard track (with easier lines), and they refused to do the hard lines.. Ended up stuck anyway, and as it turned out, had none of the equipment they said they had. No equipment, no rated recovery points, and no idea. Didn't get home until 9am the next day getting these nonga's out of the bush (hit the bush 5pm day before).

I will be the first to admit I’m very envious about Jason & Simon as who wouldn’t like to be sponsored to drive some of the best tracks in Australia.

Also thanks for the tip about Ernie Dingo taking over Low Range as I didn’t know that. But I would love to know how often the MDC caravan is replaced per series.

A few years ago I seen an ad on car sales for a BT 50 ute not long after they had been released to the market. The ute had all the gear on it fitted out by TJM. Rang the owner and had a chat where he told me it had only been on one trip to the Kimberley. Dropped out to view it out Cooroy way with me still being unaware of the video mentioned in this thread. The owner Simon told me about how he had started making DVD's. Dropped into the TJM shop to ask a few questions re the ute and ended up buying the DVD. Went home and watched the DVD and decided that I shouldn't buy that ute. The ute copped a canning all while towing a trailer.
