Hi,

Looking for some feedback on these fans from people who are actually using them for sleeping at night with.
What is the difference between the 2?
How quiet are they as one of us is a very light sleeper?
I appreciate some actual feedback on these fans as they are a lot of money to fork out. Whitworths have the sirocco at $150 and the Ultimate at $99.

We have a Sirocco in our camper and it works great.3 speed,can set it at any
angle and quiet.

Another thumbs up for the Sirocco, very quiet and they work a treat and at a $150 that is a very good price, can't comment on the ultimate as I have never used one.

We actually just have a cheap type of 12 volt fan that cost about $20 and it works fine. Just clamps to a pole beside our bed in our camper. Have had it for about 2 years now and only use it when it is unbearably hot at night and it is amazing the difference it makes.

We have the Sirocco and its great. The timer is a real handy feature, can leave on as you go to sleep and not worry about having to turn off.

The Sirocco in our AORC Quantum is so good, I'm getting a second so that we don't have to fight over the aiming of the breeze. Mrs T grumbles about the LED lights but they don't bother me in the least.

I've tried cheap fans in the past and found them to be too noisy and not near as efficient as the Sirocco.

Thank so much for all your responses. It has confirmed what I thought that these fans are very good. I am going to invest in 2.
1 for the camper trailer and 1 for the caravan!!!!

Our Sirroco fans have arrived and we hooked up long 12v cords and checked them in the car and they go like a bat out of hell. Very happy with them. Just need to work out how best to attach them (so that they are removable).

We mounted a sirocco fan to the ceiling of our Jayco camper. We love it as it is quiet and can be angled in any direction. As others have said, the timer is great. We left the mounting plate attached to the ceiling and then just do up two screws when we fit the fan. Works a treat.
Since selling the jayco and buying the KK, we still use the sirocco fan. we suspend it from a rope strung across the roof bars inside the camper.

Thanks for the info Stozz. I'll pass the info on to my hubby and I am sure that will help him work out the best way to hang them. Do you find one fan is enough?

I like the Ultimate fans, they're a fair bit smaller, but I think the timer function on the scirocco will be what wins the job. Like you, I need to make them removable, to clip onto a tent bow pole. I was imagining bolting the fan to a length of tent pole, that would then clip across between the bed bow and upright bow (if you can imagine what I'm saying). My fear is that the heaver scirocco fan will simply rotate around as gravity pulls it down, and I can't come up with an elegant way to brace it yet. Hence, I'll be keen to see how you do it!

Glad to hear you're happy with the airflow and noise level of the scirocco fans, that was a big unknown for us. Do you think you'd need two inside a camper, or would just one do the trick? Did you get yours from Whitworths?

Hi Matto

Our camper doesn't arrive until latish April at this stage (we're getting an Aussie Swag) and we're still trying to work out how to attach to the bows as well. Whatever we come up with needs to be easily taken down before folding up, but just as easy to get up. I had a tentative thought of using clamps (the ones you squeeze open), but thinking that may not work. Stozz has taken the bottom plate off and mounted it to the ceiling of his camper, maybe there might be something in that if there was a quickish way to hook the fan to it. I'll mention the idea of the tent pole to my hubby to see if he can make it work. We've got a little time to work on ideas before the camper arrives. I'll post any ideas that we think might work. I'd appreciate any other you come up with as well. Thanks

We decided on two fans as I don't sleep well if I am warm and as long as I have a breeze I'm ok. I don't need to share the breeze with two of them. Also we are looking at heading back home to Central Qld and we definitley need them out there.

Someone mentioned they had put a magnet on the base of their fan, and I assume some magnets or metal in a few spots on the ceiling so they can move it around. Sounds like a good idea, just make sure the magnets are strong as those little fans can be pretty powerful.

My concern with magnets, if sticking to the tent bow, is how to stop the fan rotating on the box. IE, turn fan on, fan acts like outboard motor and stays stuck to the bow, but rotates away.

I may be overthinking it though. I'd love to hear from Russ as to how well his solution works - it'd be perfect if it did work.

As for the magnets, Rare-Earth magnets (grab some from ebay) should be more than strong enough. If you're handy, pull apart a couple of old computer hard disks and pilfer the magnets from inside them. Check out the LED lighting thread somewhere - a lot of clever folk use rare-earth magnets to stick their lights to their poles with the canvas in between. The fans will be heavier, but nothing more magnets wouldn't fix

We had another thought of using a long strip of velcro (both parts of the velcro) and wrapping it in a figure eight around each side of the fan and around the bows and reattaching the velcro back to itself. My thought is that if you can make it tight enough then I think it should work. It would certainly be less invasive than some other options. My hubby is thinking some type of clamp setup might be the go.

Let me know what you think about the velcro idea. I would appreciate any feedback.

Are they 120mm fans? How do you find the airflow? Have been stalking a number of yachting forums, and the general consensus seems to be that while they're cheap, they don't really move enough air to actually make a difference. Quiet and power efficient though. I've got a bunch of old PC fans stashed away somewhere - if it does work well then I'll have to dig them up and copy your design. Love the pigtail attachment!

It works as long as there is enough weight to hold it tight to the pole - otherwise it slips down slowly ..

It should work on the sirooco if you can make a base plate to fit ...

We have used ours in the caravan with great success free camping and anticipate using it in the camper by zip tying it to a pole near the bed.

Sorry to resurrect and old topic.

But I'm looking to buy this fan but it would HAVE to be mounged on a tent pole. I have seen pics of these fans with two C Clips on the base. How are the C clips attached?
