Desert Edge - Any one heard of these ???
« on: December 31, 2011, 06:28:42 PM »
OK just got back from a quick trip to Surfer's and when coming through Kempseyi saw a Desert Edge dealer with both hard and soft floors CT's out the front. the place was close so i didn't stop, but was just wondering if anyone has had any dealings with these CT's i have had a troll through the websit and of course NO prices but the finish (from the pics & side of the road) doesn't look to bad.
http://www.desertedgetrailers.com.au/desert-edge-camper-trailers-product.html
I have emailed for a quote so when it comes back i will post it here.
but would like to hear Pro's and Con's prior to getting the quote if possible.

Cheers

They are made by a boat manufacturer and use oztrail tents. A local boat shop sells them near us. Never had a real god look at them but they look good in the pics!

We camped beside one earlier last week in Dubbo. It took them close to 4 hours to set it up! There were poles holding up poles! I think the people were new to camper trailers and setting up.

4 hours to set up an Oztrail tent?  That's insane.

I think the people were new to camper trailers and setting up.

4 hours does seem like a very long time even if it was their first time setting it up, but in saying that some people when doing it the first time are meticlous in what they do making sure they dont screw anything up or break anything.
Was it a hard or soft floor Nurse????
i would think taking that long to set up your talking soft floor.......

I haven't seen one in the flesh, but have read about them in the CT magazines. They look quite good and are manufactured from alloy, so they should be light and corrosion resistant.

Knowing what I know about quintrex the company and their boats, they will be built to a price and mass produced. With their boats they have a fixed options list from the factory and thats it, then its up to individual dealers to decide if they will do the extra's for you.

Tried to buy 10-15 boats off them last year (4.5m - 5m) but needed them built to Level floatation regs for NSW (Not much work, just some extra floatation) and they weren't interested basically saying we don't need your business as we can't keep up with the orders we get now. We bought Blue fins instead.

Jas

I had a look at some at Beenleigh, they were good value for money for a mass produced set up.

It must have been amusing watching someone take 4 hours to set one up, the ones I saw looked pretty straight forward, but then again I've gone through every possible mishap when setting up camp and given everyone else a laugh.

Saw one at camping/caravan show a few months back.  Looked pretty nice - seemed to be neatly finished.

What they had on display was a hard floor, which didn't interest me.  Ran into a mate who was very impressed and put it on his maybe list.  Haven't heard that he has made any decisions, though...

Just checked the website and their is a dealer at both Heatherbrae and Kempsey and coincidently pie shops as well :cup:

Weso please post up any pricing you receive back (if you don't mind) as I would be interested. I had been looking at hardfloor CT's on the internet over the last couple of days and hadn't considered (or heard of) these until reading your thread. the 2 x offroad models interest me, they look flash.

Rang the Heatherbrae dealer today and was quoted the following .......
The guy did say to me that they have had the oasis there for 6 months now and they would like to move it on so there is some movment available in the price quoed.
Will be heading to Heatherbrae in the next day or so to have a closer look ...........
I did notice in the standard specs list that the outback delux does not list a water tank but it is in the optional extras and i mentioned this to the Heatherbrae sales rep and he said that ALL desert edge campers com with water tank and pressure pump, the Optional tank is a SECOND 90L tank.

outback $ 27500
outback delux $36000
Oasis Deluxe $17500

Far out with the pricing! You could get a Trackabout featuring a fully Australian made trailer and Australian made and sewn canvas tent for similar prices.... I would seriously look at a NSW dealer and compare the two. Just my two cents worth.

Being alloy they should be lighter than other hard floors (wouldn't be hard to be lighter than the KK) and the ball weight also would be more reasonable. Its a case of weather it ticks all of the boxes for you. What I have read and seen in the mags (I havent looked at one in the flesh) appears to be good quality and not bad value.

When I was faced with spending that sort of money I found more value in a well proven second hand product with heaps of extras and inclusions for similar money, but thats just me.

It really comes down to personal choice and what you see as value. Don't be put off by the comments of others. I am keen to hear what you think of them once you have had a look at one in the flesh. I like the ideas of an alloy trailer.

They have 30% of the recreational boating market only because they market to a price point and spend massive amounts of $$$ marketing their product. They are able to mass produce their boats and hence sell them cheeper than most other boat builders. There boats are OK with some great hull designs (Hornets) but their quality control is hit and miss and they are not the best company to deal with.

One of the comments I hear all the time is that a Quintrex Hornet would be the ultimate boat if it was built by someone other than Quintrex.
