I like the kiss method. You could build up a ply frame around some storage containers. Similar to what I made for the Prado.

Looks perfectly acceptable to me..

I like to use stackable plastic crates similar to milk ones but bigger, will get a pic after for you.

Excellent for clothes/light gear but I'd go smaller for recovery gear as they're too heavy when full

We use these ones :

Very heavy duty ; a small and a medium fit inside our trailer , or just one large one .
They are tough enough to stack on each other , yet if they are empty at home they can stack inside each other .
The lids have a clip-on at one end and we use a small piece of wire to twist and hold the other end of the lid down tight .

I would avoid any clear plastic ones ( not very strong )

We use the black " recycle " ones in the ute . Hard to find the ones with lids though ..

the issue with spacecases is they are expensive!

I know! It was cheaper for me to buy a Drifta kitchen to keep everything in. So much more organized now!

On our recent trip to Cape York over 5weeks, the ute was packed like this:

Shelving made to fit the tupperware boxes from the kitchen- straight from the house to the car. Drawer on L side is 800mmL, and holds all the plates, cups, billies (inc 9L stock pot) and even the yoghurt maker. Stackable plastic boxes from bunnings holds everything else. Fridge slides out the back, butting up to the pot drawer.

The shelf over the tent has legs so doubles as a table (1000mx900mm) when not at overnight stops. All gear on top is bedding. Jerries run across the front of the ute with water and diesel. Fishing rods up top. Poles and canned food in drawers under canopy (bn tail lights).

Keep in mind this whole set up was designed before the camper arrived! So now, all the bedding goes in there, and there is a lot more room in the ute!

The possibilities are endless!!!!

We use these ones as well. They've held up very well and fit in our camper perfectly.

Hi,
the shaped stackable tubs are great, but the 'stackable' feature does use up a bit of space when not stacked.

Yonks ago I made 3 boxes out of fibre glass for panniers on the motor bike. They had a 'moulded' lid so were completely dust proof, BUT , they don't fit efficiently into my existing available space dammit.

I like the drawers solution, again some space must be sacrificed for the convenience of the runners.

I have found the round floppy laundry tubs will fit into some of my convoluted under bed/bench spaces nicely, and they will bend around the corners I have to push them to get them right inside. They are great for that.

At the moment I'm using a combination of shapes/types till we get ourselves sorted out to our new storage area, but am considering making a couple of ply boxes to fit in some of the residual spaces that may get a bit more efficiency with the packing.

Do you have a brand for these blue tubs and also maybe a retail outlet. Also what are the capacity of these tubs in litres. thanks.

Sorry , I didn't get back to you sooner .....
Mine don't seem to have any brand on them ....
I did some searching and I've found them in Brisbane here at Handi Cart .
They seem to be a 645 x 413 base size , with varying heights .
And could be anywhere between 32 litres and 68 litres .
I have one that would have to be more than that though .

Nally is the brand so goggle that and you should find a supplier near you it what we used when i was a butcher very strong

Hi MDS69,

It looks like they are unbranded or copies of the Nally tubs. We have a pile (30+) of the Nally ones in our warehouse for storage and to take items out on jobs. They are great. We have lids for some and in the warehouse they stack on top of each other on their moulded feet when containing items. We bought ours from Bunnings as, believe it or not, they were the best price at the time. They come in a variety of colours and depths if that helps.

This is the setup I did for the back of the Defender:

And this is what I did in the Trak Shak as I felt that the storage boxes were wasting too much space:

The ply is heavier than an aluminium set-up, however I find that it settles the suspension nicely and it has held quite sturdy over many km's of corrugations and serious off-road conditions.

We are in the processes of ordering a camping box / dog kennel for the back of his ute, by the same excellent tool box company that made his work boxes. They will last a lifetime, so worth the extra expense.

It's all been designed by BF and we'll deck it out to suit ourselves. He's gotten pretty good at adding shelving etc to his work boxes and will do the same for the camping box. It's basically going to look like his work boxes (think Tradie and you'll get the idea), get taken on and off like his work boxes (search for ute boxes and you'll find the pics), but all our excess camping goods, another fridge and the puppies will go into it. The kennel section will be kept as a separate, so that we can go with or without them depending on where we go. I can see other pups being rather jealous of the luxury box ours will be in.

I only have a technical drawing at present, but promise to take pics as things happen.
