Myswag Chat
« on: December 29, 2011, 09:16:10 PM »
Those of us who are members of the Facebook page would remember when we could chat in real time using the chat thingo on that site.  Unfortunately once the group got to 250 members the chat feature got disabled as per Facebook policy.  Since that feature was pretty handy I've had a look around at alternatives and have come up with an IRC chatroom via a Mibbit web interface.

To access the chat click on this link - http://bit.ly/vBOW7B

You should get presented with a screen like this -

Clear out the automatically generated username that is already there, and put in yours.  Then click on Connect, and you should get in.

Looking forward to seeing you all in there!  For those who are already familiar with IRC and what to login via the old fashioned way the network is AustIRC and the channel is #myswag.

Please note that this is only a trial! If things go pear shaped with it I will cancel the account and look for something else.

Had about a dozen people drop in and out during the day, but not many on at one time.

How about we schedule a time for everyone to hop in - say 8pm most nights?

Almost 9 in the morning and gave it a go.

Seems I'm too ugly, too early, too late, too dumb or all 4.

Do you talk & listen or is it a type jobby?

It did but the problem is everyone gets on at different times, so quite often you'll be in there by yourself waiting for others to come in.  From looking at the logs people have jumped in at 2am and asking if anyone else is in there!

Probably would work better if we had a scheduled day and time to jump in and say G'day.... open to ideas.

I'm all for encouragement & communication and this idea sounds good to me.

I reckon the idea of a preset time is a good one. I'd also like to suggest that a trial of sorts be set-up between two members so that others (me) can sit & watch and get a feel for how it all works.

When I have a go I'm not overly confident to be honest. Whereas a trial might get around that.

But the question is ........am I even logging on right?
Step 1 - http://bit.ly/vBOW7B
Step 2 - remove the screen name and insert my name (Blinky Bill)

But then I'm presented with a not too familiar looking screen. And I suppose no one else is around but to be honest I don't know, and so I drift off.

Now if you like the trail idea and need the lowest common denominator (someone easily confused, with low IQ, no IT fuzzy logic and a genuine screw-up)..........then I'm your boy!  ;D

Cheers - Wayne
