Christmas grub - what food did you serve up this year.

This for Christmas we added a few Aussie touches to the usual fair. We still had, ham, salads, chicken (not fans of turkey), roast lamb instead of pork and roast veggies. The Aussie touches this year were Yabbies instead of prawns and freshly backed beer damper instead of bread.

Went down a treat.

Mystre did a cold dinner Chicken , Pork ,Lamb, Ham & 4 salads , It was/is great as its still going on & on .  Its so much easier as people can drift in at any time to eat  :cheers:

We camped on the Mitchell River, near the Desailly Ranges, otherwise known as the Od Cooktown Crossing, in FNQ. On Saturday the water was lovely and refreshing, flowing a clear blackish colour.  A large thunderstorm late Saturday changed that and sent a whole lot of turgid brown runoff into the river.

Never the less it was a beautiful setting for us to enjoy our roast turkey on the Weber Q, with veggies, a bottle of Pinot Grigio, coffee & chrissie cake, followed by a nap, then a few shared bottles of bubbly with the other two sets of campers on the river.  :cheers:

To start with the location, sitting in Stuarts Point CP, right opposite (20mts away) from the river  ;D , kids running around on there bikes, skateboards, and do all manner of fun things, adults drinking, and fishing, and generally having a great xmas day.

Had a 5 min sun shower about 10.30 odd, and then the sun is out for very sunny day.

About 11.00am moved across onto grassed area besde the river had a swim and then set up the BBQ, by about 11.30 we dicided to start cooking lunch, BABY SNAPPER  :cup: (marinated in sweet chilly, garlic and honey soy sauce), as a an entree, cooked up some salt and pepper calimari  :cup:, and then served lunch with home grown tomatos, lettuce, etc, salads and bread rolls, all washed down with a few cold beers, and again all whilst sitting beside the river with a dozen families, and kids having a ball.

Would have to be one of the best xmas' i have had in a few year, never had a bad one, but this one i will recall for some time.

Outstanding.

prawns , chicken . ham and salads washed down with plenty of beer and as usual the following 2 days after sitting on the recliner with swollen ankles toes and knees - every year i think that's right this happened to me last year  ???

We had xmas brunch on the foreshore at Emu Point near Albany. I had told Brenda that I had booked with a commercial eatery as this was her 1st xmas without her daughter and granddaughters. When we got out of the car near the boat club, Brenda said it is closed, I said come over here and we walked to the lawn and her Daughter/granddaughter stepped out and surprised her.  :cup: :cup:
We had sausages eggs bubble&squeak,mushrooms etc with associated lubricants - best Christmas surprise ever.
They had gotten up at 5am and driven 250km to be with her and returned in the afternoon  :cup: :cup:

Hope everyone else's tasted as good as ours

Bloody brother in law used Christmas day to try out the new weber, so what started out as a traditional roast lunch turned into a 7pm dinner. 

 Luckily we has some cold ham and salads on hand and with a few prawns thrown in we had a cold lunch.

It was good fun taking the Mickey out of him all day though.

xmas at mums they always over do it prawns ,bugs,roast turkey,roast pork, ham,roast vegies and lots of salads  plenty of :cheers: but i no complain ;D

We went around to a mate's house and took the Weber One-Touch with us to cook a turkey. 2KGs of heat-beads lit at 13:00. 6.8KG self-basting Turkey put in at 13:45 and lid closed. Many beez between 14:00 and 16:00!  :cheers:

At 16:00, we cooked roasted veg, cauliflower and cheese sauce (I'm rather famous for my three cheese sauce), roasted potatoes (I like to do them in the Weber, but a 6.8kg birds in pretty bloody big) and some rich gravy. We sliced up some cold Bertocchi ham (don't tell the rabbi!) and pulled the bird off the Weber at 17:15. Let the bird sit for 15 mins and then carved it up.

The Weber cooks things very succulently. Somehow the juices seem to stay in. I am not a fan of turkey at all - because it's always so dry. Do it on a Weber and give it a try  :D

My only mistake of the day was serving all 5 of the kids brandy butter thinking it was ice cream...  ;D

Fired up the Spit with marinated Chicken, Lamb and Pork accompanied by plenty of seafood and i tell ya i was licking my chops for a few hours   :-*
As a matter of fact its a repeat for tonight  :cheers:

The Dhuie was smaller than these 2 x fish
these two are both over 4' long  :D
but... they were both really crappy eating compared to the Dhuefish  ;D ;D
