Aussie Swag Owners ... Roll Call.
« on: December 24, 2011, 07:07:44 PM »
Just been looking at the Who Made Your CT thread and found there are 26 31 32 34 35 members who have an Aussie Swag Camper Trailer.  Since some other CT brands are getting together a roll call, thought the AS owners could do the same.

Who are you?
Where are you?
Which one do you have?
What mods have you done?
What extra's did you opt for?
Where have you taken it lately?
How often do you use it?
Comments?

...000...000...000...000...000...000...000...000...000...000

Who are you? Kit_e aka Tracey

Where are you? Logan Shire, Queensland ... near Springwood ...

Which one do you have? Rover LX

What mods have you done? Put some more foam under the foam mattress.

What extra's did you opt for? 2nd battery, annex pack 1, mudflaps, burner plate

Where have you taken it lately? Bush camping at Fordsdale Farmstay for 3 nights.

How often do you use it? Lots!!!!  So far averaging 30 or so nights per year, but hoping for more each year.

Comments? So far we haven't found much at all that we'd change.  Thought about adding some sort of light to the battery box, but are currently using our headlamps as they handy.  Bought some folding solar panels from Jetcrew and can now stay out for quite a while without needing to plug into power, which is great.  We bought an OzPig (which we absolutely love) and only really use the stove now in inclement weather and for pre-breakfast coffee, but it's great to know it's there when we require it.  I use the jerry can holders as rubbish bins when they aren't in use (we now have JerryCanBins ... many thanks to DB for the idea) ... 1 for recycling and 1 for general refuse.  We've lost a couple of poles rubber "feet" so I'm hoping they are somewhere within the pole holder, because we always do the 'camp check' before we go and haven't found them.  We found that the front flap (over the fridge/kitchen boxes) always pulled towards the  main awning (we don't use the offside awning much), and now we have a second rope on the (awning side) pole which we tie off onto the kitchen rack (drivers side).

We are so happy with our AS and think it's our best buy ever.  Many Thanks to the Most Excellent AS Team at Brendale for making such a wonderful camper!

Who are you: JKohn (John)

Where are you? Adelaide

Which one do you have: 2010 Ultra

What mods have you done: MySwag sticker, Stonestomper, roll out drawer dividers, jerry can tool box, extra reflectors on the back, C-gear multi mat, rockbreaker tent pegs, ARK 500kg jockey wheel

What extra's did you opt for: Kitchen top bag (our idea to start with :) ), extra tea towel holder at end of fold out bench, 12v socket in hot water section for our 25lt Waeco, non slip matting in pantry, under sink drawers, and also for on top of battery lid, side kids room, annex pack 2, DO35 hitch.

Well that's 3 of us.  "Hello" to you both ... now ... another 23 27 28 29 to go!  It's great to see the photo's too, so I'll go back and add one to my reply.  Great to know that their are other very happy AS owners out there who Love to use their CT when they can.

I met a fellow at TJM last week who had a very, very old one, which they had modified so much that it didn't look like an AS anymore, but what he'd done was amazing!  Extended draw bar to put the kids motorbikes on with a roof top tent for the kids above it, then the regular camper for mum and dad.  Completely checker plated all over which looked fantastic in the photo he showed me.  He still called it an AS and he was happy with the original bits ... canvas etc still doing well after so many years.

Who are you? Bill and Morag
Where are you? Edmonton, Qld
Which one do you have? 2002 Classic
What mods have you done? None yet. But I picked up an electric water pump, C tec battery charger and a Waco 500 watt inverter  yesterday. I also have a bit of gear from the internet coming so mods will begin soon. Next week I will hopefully be getting some real tyres put on it.
What extra's did you opt for? We purchased it used but previous owner opted for the annex walls, flyscreens, 120 litre water tank and deep cycle battery.
Where have you taken it lately? Woodleigh Station for the FNQ Christmas trip.
How often do you use it? Only once, but we have only had it a month. We have a trip planned for March and one for Easter long weekend.
Comments? It was a bit of a culture shock going from a soft floor that I had setup 100% the way we wanted it to a bare bones c/t that needs all the mods. At one point I was ready to sell it on and keep the soft floor. But I convinced myself that once I finish the mods I know I will be happy with it...

Hi Bill & Morag,

Glad to hear that your 2002 has had a workout and will be tripping again in the not too distant future.  I am sure that once you've mod'd to your hearts content you'll have the camper you always wanted.  I understand the culture shock completely ... my last camping experience was with a tent before we go our AS.  Any photo's from the trip?

Who are you? TC Cocky (Julian)
Where are you? Moora WA
Which one? 2001 Rover Ultra
What Mods? The only thing i have done to date (have had the camper 4 years) is to put rinbolts into the stone guard to bungee the front window flap out to for overnighters. It saves putting up any poles or pegs. When next in Perth will pick up a spreader bar to suit to strengthen the flap ofr windy conditions. Before our next bush camping trip have plans to add a second tap for hand washing behiind the fridgebox.
What extras? We bought it 2nd hand and it had full annex and offside awning, lecy brakes, 65w solar panel plus all the usuals, 60ltr water tank, battery and charger, independent suspension etc.
Where have we taken it lately? Nowhere!!  :'( A very long harvest this year meant no quick trips out the coast this summer. Last trip was 10 days out east to Coolgardie. But we are heading off in 11 sleeps for a fortnight down at Augusta!!
Comments. We started looking around for campers and were very lucky to buy our swag off some friends of SWMBO's family at a very reasonable price. Ummed and Aahed about possible upgrades but in all honesty its in great nick and has just about everything we want. Have tried to find a kids room to suit as this is the only drawback. With our second bub due in april our floorspace will be pretty cramped  when we overnight out bush. But its really only a short term(5-8yrs) until the kids either stop coming!! or they grow big enough to turf out in swags or bunks!! >:D All our mates have either tents or soft floors and they always want us to set it up when they come out for dinner so they can have a quick butchers at it in action. It should do us without too many mods at all for the foreseeable future. (barring a lotto win or wheat going to $500 a tonne and wool to 2000c greasy!!

Hi Julian,

Nice to hear of another happy AS owner!  Congrats on the soon to appear addition to your family.  It sounds like you are working hard to earn your living and I for one appreciate a farming family!  I hope the prices go your way.  Sorry to hear you haven't been out camping as much as you'd like, but reckon you'll appreciate that holiday in 11 sleeps very much.

I think it's wonderful to hear that the older ones have been kept in top condition.  It not only shows the dedication and quality (read: love) that's gone into their build but also the love their owners have shown them.

Sorry to confuse you Speewa ... I might adjust the heading to have some brackets ... but feel free to drop by with a refreshing ale any time you like.   ;D

Hello Alex & Jill,

Nice to hear from you.  I can see your photo so all is good!   ;D  Love the additions to give you more undercover area.  Top idea!  We've been using a tarp to cover the fridge box in sunny/rainy weather from the awning to the stone guard, but I like your idea better.  Good to hear that you are using it every chance you get ... so do we.

Who, Ken & Rosemary.

Where, Murrumba Downs Qld. [10mins from AussieSwag factory]

Which one, Ultra E.

No need for mods yet.

Extras, Annex pack 2

Last trip, Elanda Point.

Try to do one trip a month.

This is my second Aussie swag camper having owned a earlier model Rover Ultra then a caravan, I find the current model ticks all the boxes I felt the earlier Rover lacked, fridge access, lighting, power supply etc all has been refined to be much more user friendly. So far very happy with the camper and service from the Aussie Swag factory.

Hi Digga (Ken & Rosemary),

Nice to hear from yet another AS owner.  So glad to hear that you try for once per month to exercise your suspension and check your canvas.  There are some excellent camping spots a short drive north of Brisbane!

I notice so far, most have gone for the Ultra's ... do you think it was the "everything you need right at your fingertips" convenience of the Ultra that made you choose it over the other models?

Hi AS owners,
I don't have one of these but I do have a connection. My old man did the canvas work on those trailers for several years and possibly either of my parents sold you yours if you bought it at a camping show on their many trips through east and southern states. Warren and Deborah are their names. Would be interesting to know if anyone here actually met them and what they think of the old boys work. I believe he was one of the last to actually be accredited with a canvas machinist trade and he's been on the machines for a good 35-40 years now. Anyway, sorry for jumping this one.

Cheers

Hi Kit_e, we decided on the ultra because they are built locally to us, we both like the kitchen, build quality, an awning that covers both sides, everthing has a place and is easy to get to, you don't have to go out and buy other bits and pieces and then find somewhere to put them, eg solar panel, generator, HWS, decent electrics as standard, the easiest hard floorcamper to fold with awnings attached. We did look at other camper trailers, but kept coming back to the A/Swag. At the end of the day you buy what you want and will be happy with.

Happy Trails Digga.

Who are you -    Janet and Brett
Where are you - Perth WA
Which one -       Rover LX 2012
Which Mods - Turned the space under the grill into a cutlery draw,
Had a mount for the porta potty placed on the draw bar,
Swapped the large fridge compartment to the back and small to the
                     front.
Which extras - Annex pack 2, Mudflaps, Michey Thompson tyres to match
                      the land-cruiser, Large storage bag.

Waiting not so patiently for the arrival of our new ASC. Placed an order in December 2011 and now only 3 weeks to go. Previously we had a soft floor custom made camper, larger enough for our family of 5, but now just being the 2 of us we want simple and quick set up. The ASC ticked all the boxes.
We always have our fridge in the land-cruiser so swapped the rear box (small with a shelf) to the front, we will use this for a pantry, and the large box is now at the rear ( used for storage).  We also changed the position of the Annex door to the right, so it sits in front of the camper door.
We have traveled all over Australia over the last 15 year, but still haven't seen it all.
Cant wait to get  our ASC, first trip away from the cold and up to Coral Bay for a bit of fishing.

Hey Tigga,

It's quality work no matter who does it.  Built to last.  I'd love to be able to sew (even canvas).  Could do some extra bits here and there that I'm after rather than pay a premium for someone else to do it for me.

Hi Janet & Brett,

My Rover is roughly 2 years younger than yours give or take.  You are going to love it ... everyone who buys one does!  It's going to be the longest wait nearing the end even if you thought the months previous were.   We are also looking at options mounting the porta potty on the drawbar.  I'd be interested to see some photo's of how you did it.  I love the idea of converting the under grill base section into a cutlery draw ... I'll have to see photo's of that as well you know!!  We've been storing tea towels and other assorted stuff under there, but I always worry about fire so close to fabrics.  Cutlery sounds like a perfect solution!

Hi Kit_e
Oh the time is just dragging by.  I have gone through all our camp gear, and bought some new stuff, but i go to bed most nights thinking were to put things, and do i have everything i need.  ASC have e-mailed us some photos but not of the completed job yet.  How do you post a photo from my PC hardrive.?

We had the draw under the stove as we dont use a grill much, even at home.
Cant wait for a photo of that.  Yes we put the toilet on the draw bar as its to heavy for us to put up and down on-top of the trailer (oh and what if it spilled  on you when you lifted it down, yuk)

AOC hasn't given us an exact date yet, but an approximate 3 weeks, then it has to be transported over from QLD to Perth, (not sure how long that is)

Will put photos up when i work it out.

How did I miss this one  ???

Who are you? Tammy and Jeff
Where are you? Wattle Grove (NSW) and Kurri Kurri (NSW)
Which one do you have? 2011 Ultra G
What mods have you done? Jeff recently made new telescopic feet for when the hard floor is too far from the ground (no need for extra pieces of wood under them now).
What extra's did you opt for? Annex Pack 2, DO23 Hitch, 17inch rims and tyres, innerspring mattress, 85lt Evacool Fridge/Freezer, kitchen box bag
Where have you taken it lately? Chichester State Forest (NSW)
How often do you use it? Try to use it at least monthly for a 2 night trip (my RDO)
Comments? Don't think I can add anything that hasn't already been said.  We went for the Ultra as it had everything that i would have wanted anyway (hot water, shower room, solar) plus a great setup, what more could you ask for  :cup:

J & B

Hey J&B,

Once the photos are on your hard-drive, down below the posting box (where the typing goes), there are the words "Additional Options", click on this and the photo posting boxes come up "Attach:".  Use the "browse" to go to where you have your photos stored and choose one.  If you wish to put more in then, choose "(more attachments) below that and keep going.  Rules are:  Allowed file types: gif, jpg, mpg, pdf, png
Restrictions: 5 per post, maximum total size 2000KB, maximum individual size 500KB as shown below all of that.

It's easier if your photos are "small" size wise ... say 600 x 480 (or so).  You can get them like this by adding them to an email, and then choosing to save them.  ALWAYS SAVE THEM SOMEWHERE ELSE to the original.

Alternately, if you are hosting them somewhere like PhotoBucket (or similar) you can add those it, but it's a little more complicated if you are a computer forum newbie!

PM me if you need more help as I'd love to see your photos.

Dunno!   ;D

That front wall looks great!  We didn't get that, but one day ... maybe.   Nice to hear you are trying to use it often.   We are out each fortnight for an overnighter and love long weekends when we can get them.

How do you find the inner spring mattress?

Love the idea of longer legs for the hard floor.  BF was thinking of something similar, but timber it is for now ... he's a chippy so short lengths are easy to come by.  Although on occassion we've had to dig the front legs and bar work in (those closer to the tyres when down).

Although on occassion we've had to dig the front legs and bar work in (those closer to the tyres when down).
