new or used
« on: December 03, 2011, 08:33:12 PM »
Hi all,
My first post, I have previously had a jayco penguin on/road.
Am looking to buy an off-road CT, hard floor.

Dilemma.

Do i buy a used KK / pioneer argyle, or a new cheaper unit and spend the same money
in getting it up to spec?
OR, buy a new Brumby/Daintree/ or similar and swallow the cost of having it already done.

Am looking to go touring next year ie. Canning/simpsons/cape york.
I want a hard floor as they are so easy to set-up.

Towing behind a GU 3.0TDI

Thoughts / Pros - cons please.

I have just had the same sort of situation , ended up going older but quality of a KK , after see ing a mates 2 year old chinese hard floor today  after only a few softish trips , im glad ive gone with the KK  Mines 11 years old and in far superior condition . Its the little things like Nylock nuts on quality bolts ,  decent bracing and frames with strength , Heavy duty hubs , heavy duty canvas , all the wiring in harnesses and silastic around all areas where it wears that make the difference . The places you are wanting to go to  will warrant the  extra dollars .

Personally I dont think I'd ever buy another new trailer... Let someone else wear the depreciation and do all the mods... then you buy it ready to sail.

something like this would be nice

YMMV

We just bought a 99 Kimberley and couldn't be happier- previous owners had looked after it, and didn't really go offroad in it.  All depends on what you want (we wanted quality without the bells and whistles) and where you live!  :D

I want to talk AGAINST buying second hand for a moment.  :police:

Well actually all I really want is for other people to keep on buying new so that then I can come along and buy it second hand.  :D

Facts are my 2000 Kimberley Kamper has been great for us from the very start.  And God there are some amazing second hand buys listed above. But how many campers is too many?  ???

Diesel heaters - This my second CT (first was an On Road) and one thing that I would like is a diesel heater (& possibly a hot water system). At present we avoid the cool climes & I'd reckon a diesel heater would possibly get around the issue.

Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

This KK would be hard to go past; owned by a fastidious member who has improved an already good unit.

I can tell you, his half of the bed has hardly been slept in  ;D.

Nice looking unit BigJules.

Check out his Kimberley Kamper folks - http://myswag.org/forum/index.php?topic=18319.0

So when I read  your comment and I quote "I can tell you, his half of the bed has hardly been slept in". I put 2 and 2 together and went to the photo to see if the tyres were in good condition.

What are your thoughts on diesel heaters AND what do you plan to move to? A caravan maybe?

Cheers - Wayne
