Well, after dropping in to our Rays, they tell me that there's no 25% off, or VIPs at all. All it is, is a catalogue sale, which is already running. IE, the Kipor generators are $100 off, as marked on the ticket. This is all they're doing in the near future. I even checked with two staff members.

On the upside, I discovered that Rays DO carry the Yamaha generators, so when they do have a sale, I might be able to pick one up then. Tempted by the cheaper price of the Kipors, but figure I'd best stick with known quality.

Not sure if other people have better luck than this, or if it's just the dodgy staff in our useless store - it certainly wouldn't surprise me (and it wouldn't be the first time).

Thanks!
Matto :)

Yeah - I asked them about the VIP sale that starts tomorrow. They said there's no such thing - there's the current catalogue sale, and that's the only event they had in their calendar. They said there's no VIP sales coming up, and no 25% sales.

As mentioned above, it might just be the staff at the Cairns store, but so far I can't see any solid evidence to take in tomorrow and gets me some discounts. Can anyone link me to an actual flyer or catalogue with the details? I can't see anything in the normal catalogue?

Thanks!
Matto :)

What it says on the letter to VIP Card Members only is.
Word for Word.
Quote
Please keep this secret offer on the down-low as this special deal is only available to our top club members.
All you need to do is present your club card at the registers and 25% off storwide is all yours.

Blah blah blah

Please note: this deal is so quiet, the exclusive club price won't be displayed in store (the discount code has been applied to your card directly).

Can't vouch for any particular item but remember look on the packaging for the RRP.
This is the catch , they may sell an item for $78 and the RRP might be $100 which means the the 25% off will mean paying $75.
You get the drift...

It may not be as good as it looks.

Thanks Steve - that clears it right up for me.

I've got one of the original VIP cards, and get the email newsletter, but I don't think I'm actually a VIP member. I've done the signup online now, but obviously will mss this one. Which is a shame - id have bought a generator if it was going to be $600 off! Ahh well - next time Gadget!

Thanks again!

With all this discounting these majors stores do constantly, it makes you wonder how much margin they are actually making on the RRP.

Case in point - I brought a bike from Anaconda for the wife for Christmas last week and it was marked down from $599 to $299.  Compared to other bikes at other stores we had looked at it was competitively priced at $599, and an absolute bargain for $299.  Whilst trying to seal the deal with the sales guy I thought I'd be cheeky and ask for a helmut to be thrown in too.  He didn't even bat an eye lid and said "sure", go pick the helmut what you want. The one we picked was price tagged at $79.95....

Either the recommended retail price is set rediculously high from the start, or they are simply making Shite loads from this chinese made stuff.  I'm never going to pay RRP for anything at these stores ever again as it seems wasy too easy to get significant discounts by simply asking the question.

I went into Kmart the other night to buy a camera for my daughter for christmas. It was $89.00 and not on special I asked for a discount he said no. I asked for a memory card to be thrown in he said no. I said I will go to Harvey Norman of Good Guys and walked off. I have never asked a department store like Kmart, Myer etc for discounts before and haven't heard of them going along with the idea but I though you don't ask you don't get and I didn't get in the end anyway.

Bugger, I don't have my card anymore :-[
From memory though they can get your details up on the system when checking out.
Will see how I go when I head in this arv'.

This is all starting to get a bit confusing - spoke to one of the guys at the Townsville store this morning and he knows nothing about any special VIP sales or 25% off sales.  The only thing he could offer me was the normal catalogue sale starting today.
Would be interesting to see if someone has actually found a store that is honouring this mystery sale..........

Apparantly it only shows up once the card is swiped.
Wouldn't be the first store not to tell the customers that a sale is coming up.
Stops the staff telling their friends or customers that if they wait a few days they'll get the item cheaper.
All the big department stores keep the special sales from their staff.

Ask them to price something and get them to swipe your "VIP" card.
That might show up the sale.

Matto PM me and we'll see whats possible. ;D I'm not buying anything from this sale.
I use the same store as you.

Sullyman - This isn't a catalog it was a letter sent out to VIP Club Members.

I didn't pay to be in the club I just joined it online and they sent out the card.
I would say that without the actual "VIP"card then you won't be able to get the "discount" such that it is.
Some items will probably be cheaper in the specials catalogue than 25% off the RRP.

Sorry Matto it says you have to present the actual card at the register.

Thanks for the offer Steve - mighty generous of you.

To everyone else, Steve has it right. A letter was sent out to some Rays and BCF members, giving you the 25% discount store wide. I'm a member of both, and I didn't get one. To redeem the discount you need to present your card AND fill out your email address. So I'm guessing they're targetting the members that don't have an email address registered. The letter says they're going to be moving to electronic communications, so I'm guessing that's why.

How do I know this? Because thanks to my in-laws, I'm now the proud owner of a Yamaha ef2000si generator, for a $550 discount off the rrp. No issues with the store, just had to show the card and they confiscated the letter, so if you are going to buy something, get everything you want I the one hit. One dude at the other register was loading up on gift cards - he must have had close to $1000 worth of them.

All in all, I'm a happy chappy.

Thanks all for the heads up, and again, thanks for the offer Steve.

Cheers!
Matto :)

Nice bargain Matto :)
Thanks mate! I figured if anyone here would appreciate it, you would  ;D ;D 8).

Should also point out, as alluded to above, this was bought from BCF, with a BCF VIP letter. Now, to fill it up and test it out!

Good luck to everyone else with one of these letters - a perfect time to grab a big $$$ item for Christmas, or just to stock up on gift cards so you can save money in future.

Thanks!
Matto :)

Went in this arv' and picked up the Finn Gizmo Fisher kayak I was after at the VIP 25% off.
Spoke to the salesman and said that I had received a letter stating that I was eligible for 25% off and asked if it applied to kayaks? The answer... Yes, which one are you after? Told him it was the Finn which I new was already reduced from $1049 to $699 - 25% = $525 ;D Was also told that only 20 000 members were sent letters Aust' wide.
Was able to make purchase without my card and without the letter ;D
Stoked as this is what I've been after as it is a versatile craft and comes pre-loaded with backrest, knee straps, bottle holder and bottle, paddle, paddle holder, paddle leash, twin hatches, rod holder, net holder, tackle box and an anchor with rope :D
Here is a pic from Finn's website:

Would love to know what the criteria for getting the letter was. Seems some VIPs are more important than others. I should call and complain, see if I can get another gift card out of them.

Great pickup Benduro! Looks like a great toy!

A while back both Rays and BCF had camper trailers on display - oztrail tents on local gal trailers. Basic setups for sure, but brand new for $6-$7k. I'd love to see someone pick one of them up with their 25% off card! You probably wouldn't be welcome back in the store though... :D

Still, all things considered its probably quite a cheap way to collect repeat customers' email addresses - they're worth real money in the long term. Their marketing dept would spend significantly more than this is costing them on each and every tv ad.

Anyone else score themselves a bargain??? Post it up and tell us about it!!!

Thanks!
Matto :)
