Camping shower on a Budget

Ok So needed a shower for camping, the coleman units are great but pricey just for showers.

SO went for a drive and went down to my local Mitre 10 and got one of these

Tried it out and am SUPPER impressed.

The Shower is said to last about 6 hours continuous use on 4*D batteries, the shower tent is HUGE and very quick to erect an set up. The shower head is a very nice design and gives very good coverage.

For anyone looking at a camping shower on a budget, i can highly recommend it.

Well, you can't have everything on a budget of $50> :)

I have one of those portable 12v showers too and have found it to be pretty good. I'd love a Power Shower in the car though.

you have to heat it yourself, but that is easy to do with my 3 burner High output stove. Boils 5L in about 6 minutes..

5L of Water @ 100Deg C mixed with 15L of water at 20Deg C, makes 20L at 40Deg C, just nice.

$24 gets you one of these, they work.


Use it while standing in a plastic tub filled with water adn recycle the water...

but for ~200 get a coleman water heater, and use that in conjunction with shower, + use it for much more.

I got no room for a big bucket,  ;D.

We will see how well this suits us then perhaps look at a Colman down the line

Mine cost me $9. Takes a few hours to heat up on the roof of the car and presto ... enough water to shower the whole family.
Ok ... it's a bit rough but it does the job till we can find one at the next town.

I have used one of those for the past few years. The problem is that the pump always eventually fails. As mentioned previously on this forum, when my last one died i threw the pump away but kept the showerhead and bought a bilge pump for it. I re-used the cig plug, cable and waterproof switch too. Works great!








* Cheap camping store shower which had died anyway $25
* 1 metre of clear 3/4" tube $1.25
* Plastic elbow from local plumber's $1.15
* Plastic hose size adaptor from local plumber's $1.00
* 3x 3/4" plastic clamps $0.80 (20 cents each) from local plumber's
* 1x 1/2" plastic clamp $0.20 from local plumber's
* Waterproof fuse holder & crimps $6
* Bilge pump $35

Proved it's worth last weekend at an offroad motorcycle comp i competed at last weekend. When the showers at the location went stone cold and my wife and kids wanted a shower after a dusty day it took me all of 10 minutes to setup the toilet/shower tent, camp shower and boil 2-3 kettles for a nice warm to hot shower. 1 jerrycan does 2-3 of us.

I can do it for cheaper!

20L plasterers bucket from a construction site: Stolen for free (with lid  ;D )
500ml cup from dad's camping equipment: Stolen for free (  ;D )
Water: $2.74 megalitre (can't find anywhere to steal this from for free alas  :'(
OzPig $300 - but I wanted one of these anyways - and I can cook my food on it and keep warm in winter without having to rumple the sheets.
Stainless Steel Kettle: Was $24.95 but (lucky for me  ;D ) was marked at $15
Timber:  Free (The Man is a chippie so I've nagged him to bring a truck load home ... poor 6 x 4 box trailer springs are starting to sag ... you can stop now Dear)

So all up it cost me $15 for the kettle and Free for all else ...

We have one of the yellow drop in bucket types and it works well, however just lately we have been using a 12 volt pressure washer 'Car cube' type as a hand shower and it works amazing well. We just heat a kettle of water add add some to the 13lt tank to make the water luke warm, the high pressure mist is great and just blast the soap residue away, you have to do the nozzle up really tight otherwise the pressure is a bit much for the 'delicate' bits'. The best part is if you are beach camping and have limited water you can get 4 showers out of the 13 litre tank, it makes a big difference because the water is under pressure and you simply don't need as much water to get the soap off. These washers are also useful for getting salt, dust etc off the car or camper and you can even get 'earmuff' attachments for an outboard motor if you are away from mains pressure. Really handy for the Camper trailer and we use ours to blast the dust off that accumulates on the back steps before we setup.

Sounded like a great idea till I found out it is $159 so ill have to give it a miss. Maybe i should just get a pump up garden sprayer, lol.
