Good buy – or what!
« on: November 11, 2011, 08:58:58 AM »
My sister in law had recently seen the light and decided to get out and about in this great country.  She wanted a ute and a slide on camper, never had a 4wd before, went to the local Toyota dealer and ordered a brand new Landcruiser GXL ute, must be red, with lockers etc. $67,000, delivery some time in December. She found a good second hand slide on, $11,000.
Well, last week she heard about a 2004 model Landcruiser Ute in a local Holden dealer yard. She looked at it, yes it was red, standard model, no lockers etc. Low mileage, but the dealer said unfortunately they have miss placed the log book. But it was red, so she bought it and cancelled her order at the Toyota Dealer. So what did she pay? $55,000!
That was last week and this week she has taken it back to the dealer because it is becoming very sluggish. They said they will clean the filter and give it a tune up.... I think she has been taken for a ride....
And mind you she has two brothers who own Landcruiser utes, one ute is a 2004 model and the other is a new model (V8) and she did not ask their opinions.  We have the 200 series wagon and did not ask us and we live in the same town!

No log books, could be a flood vehicle, I'm afraid it sounds like a steaming pile...

someone here did post a URL you can check qld cars if they are flood victims... but I'd bet D4D's 2yr old unused van that it is a victim....

Serious case of,  the money burning a hole in the pocket syndrome.

You just can't help some of them krisandkev,

My mother in law bought a Shitbox house for way to much money in 2008, during the GFC, She had spilt up with her husband and had cash burning a hole in her pocket as dno initimates here. She looked at the house once, made an unconditional offer at asking price!!!!!!

She didn't consult me and I had valued the house a number of times as well as having done all the progress inspection works during construction.

Some people are too silly when they have the cash.

Lawyer up. You would hope there would be some law requiring the seller to advise about that. Seems like there are a lot of sharks out there. No flood pun intended.

I dont know what a lawyer is going to do. They sold a car, she paid the cash.

Revs check and car history checks will tell you if there is any outstanding finance on the car, if the car has been written-off, flood damaged or stolen, current valuation, if the odometer has been rolled back and safety and emission ratings

Unlikely to be a flood vehicle, as I understand it all VINs are recorded and so those vehickes cannot be legally re-registered. Private sellers may be able to dodge this, but dealers have a much greater level of liability when selling.

Well, my sister in law took the car back to the dealer and complained.  >:(  They did a service and replaced all of the filters and the brake pads, because they did not want to get a bad name? Sister in law now says her ute is fantastic!  I just kept my opinion to myself....  ::)
