Cape Hillsborough (near Mackay) For Australia Day Weekend.
« on: October 31, 2011, 07:23:24 PM »
Hi Swaggers... have any of you been to Cape Hillsborough Nature Resort lately?

I haven't been there for over 20 years and was wondering if it was still as good as it was then?

We were there a few months ago also. New owners in the last couple of years, they have spent some money upgrading the camp kitchens. The restaurant no longer operates but you can get fish and chips a couple of nights a week, or a bus comes from the Seaforth pub and will drop you back. As above, no fires allowed anymore. Still a lovely place.

We went there 5 years ago and loved it... great spot with good facilities and lovely walks, beach and heaps of wildlife (lots of birds ticked off my list and saw my first wild dingo!)

Have a great time.

Very basic... but very relaxing. The catamaran hire on the beach was great, but the thing I remember most was, how expensive the stubbies were at the shop!

I've got fond memories from about 25 yrs ago of that place ... loved doing the walking track up the hill and then over to the island.

There is a walking track that starts at Smalleys Beach and will take you right over the cape and back to the the resort. Not offically open any more but the local bushwalking club goes through every so often and replaces the track markers I think. Quite steep to start but the views are well worthwhile. The start of the track can be a bit difficult to find but of anyone is interested I can post more details.
