Roadworthy iin Cairns, Qld

Guys and girls, i've been told i need to get a roadworthy before i transfer the rego of the trailer into my name. (bought the camper from a friend who let me have it before all the paperworks been done)

Anyway, cant seem to find a mechanics or someone who does the roadworthys in Cairns. By chance, does anyone here know of one that does? My friend who "owns" it has rung about 10 places who all say they dont do them on trailers.

Just out of interest I asked my mate who is the manager of the local Transport Dept office about camper trailer regos. His reply

"Easy way to tell is if the trailer has brakes fitted it would normally be over 750kg atm and then it would need a safety certificate. It will also need a gas certificate if it has gas appliances fitted like ours, the gas certificates are only valid to use with us if they have been issued within the last three months. The certificates are valid for twelve months but can only presented to us within the first three months for registration purposes."

You probably know this already but it might help someone else.

Your mate at Qld transport hasn't been clear with you with regard to the gas certificate.
Believe me - I know, because yesterday Qld Transport gave my dealer a big run around when they tried to register my new Tvan.  Was initialy told it needed a gas certificate - then after a big run around to get a gas fitter to do it it was revealed that there was no need for a certificate because the system is regarded as 'portable'. "Portable" in the sense that the stove is connected and disconnected from the gas bottles each time it is used. The pull out stove drawer can not be closed until the hose is disconnected.
NO certificate necessary!

Yep, if the gas plumbing is permanant, it needs a certificate.

I always thought, if u need a gas certificate because your ct can carry gas bottles, every car in australia would need one.

Oh, we're going through A1 mechanical om Morehead St for those who might want to know.

Thanks for clearing that up Tuco. His response was clear to me as I know his setup is permanently plumbed into the gas. I hadn't realized that it might become unclear when I quoted him.  :cheers:

It is clear that the requirement is only upheld depending on who you strike on the other side of the counter at Qld Transport.
This happened here in Cairns yesterday - two different customer service agents with two different requirements!

My new Tvan Murranji Mk3 was registered yesterday with NO gas certificate.
