Protection for front of CT

G'day folks.

After this weekend I reckon I will be all set to order my CT. I have done hours of research on this forum looking for features I want for my camper.

One recurrent issue mentioned when discussing features and mods was protecting the front of your CT from stone chips, sand blasting etc. I will definitely get a stone guard extended to the mud guards and some mud flaps, but I am keen to know what other ingenious mods people have come up with to protect your CT?

Rattle can of touch-up paint, don't be too precious, stone chips add character

Believe it or not, good 'ol contact (the type we've all covered our school books with works a treat.  I have a full stone guard on my Tambo but there are still some areas that get hammered.  Simply apply the contact over those areas before you travel (shouldn't be much with a good stone guard) and 95% of the stone chips you would have gathered don't occur. The big ones will still happen no matter what you do, this will stop the abraision type paint wear.  Touch up the few that remain and Bob's your uncle!

Try it, it won't cost much,  just make sure you peel it off when you return as it gets a bit iffy the longer it's on!

The thing you have to realise is that you will be dragging the draw bar of the camper on rocks and dirt so you may damage a stone stomper. I use ag pipe cut in the middle and clipped onto the draw bar. Others have used marine carpet cable tied on.

5Kg Sledge Hammer will do that nicely for you.
Seriously though they will happen soon enough & in the most crazy places you would imagine. I had a big rock hit mine the other day on one of the gas bottles on the passenger side rear on the highway. Go figure.

If ramp over is poor due terrain, it is easily removed for that particular manoeuvre then replaced.  I'd have no hesitation taking mine up the Cape.

also remember that a good guard will help stop the stones bouncing off the trailer forward into the back of the vehicle (paintwork)  , and potentially the back window.........

Gibber Chuckers , Mud Flaps there just isnt enough protection , see pic
Get a roll of Race tape & a carboard box to cover the back window at the very least . My 1st lesson cost me $580  so now its the big flap on any trip  .
Its home made & horrible but it works  :cheers:

I've followed it and it is indeed horrible - Oh wait on are we talking about the stone deflector or Speewa?

You would drag up more stones then protect the camper , being that low .

As TOPND said it takes less than 1min to remove the mesh for slow going on the Old Telegraph Track, then re-attach for the main Development road and the rest of your travels.

My flap is soft rubber which redirects the flyers under the CT & out of hars way . On the run they travel at almost level with the road  . :cheers:
