American Campers In Action - time wasting thread!
« on: October 16, 2011, 12:08:09 AM »
Don't click the link unless you have a hour to spare ;D

The guy in the first few pictures has some brass ones.  Interesting that their campers are all basically offroad trailers with a roof top tent on them.  Our campers seemed to have evolved into completley different beasts.

Yeah thanks for that link..... NOT ;D

Yes it is interesting about the RTT. Alot of their trailers (in that link anyway) appear to have a separate chassis with a tub bolted on where our soft floors the tub is an integral part of the trailer strength.

They certainly love their Jeeps and offroading.

There was a camper trailer the same as the Jeep one doing a jump for sale in eastern Melb. It was there for months. I did stop and have a look at it. it looked like it was based on the US style going from the pics in the link.

It's amazing what some people will do when a camera is on. I wouldn't think he would do that normally?

Alot of yank stuff seem small, basic and in some cases flimsy compared to Aussie Campers. The strange thing is Yanks like everything big and better but apparently not campers ( excluding the Jayco hawk types etc , I know the yanks use that style of camper).

No soft floor jobs seen in good ole US or A.

They do camp in tents, and use trailers so why not marry the both????

Even the Jaycos look smaller, lower sides on this one below.  As for why in regard to the first pics of that Jeep, I read it as being some kind of short course race.

Also no built in kitchens or anything, just an empty trailer with a lid on it used for storage.  I guess when you go away in a jeep there is nott much room for more than two so the small trailer would be more than sufficient.  The high clearance and short drawbars would make them very capable, similar to Aust army trailers.

Have a good look at where some of these guys go with their trailers and then think whether the likes of our style of trailer would make it , let alone fit .

A wise man once said "The Ability to speak does not make you intelligent" Or in these cases - the ability to Tow a trailer does not make you intelligent......

It's interesting though, every country has it's own accent, culture, dress, behavioral norms, sport etc , and it's quite interesting how camper trailers follow a sort of unique cultural pattern also, I've always seen yank campers as basic tiny trailers with big huge oversize wheels. I just think Australia has a better market and more developed product line when it comes to camper designs.

Apart from the rampant lunacy evident in some of the pics, they certainly do go for a totally differnt style of CT. I mean that last Jeep pic, the fire extinguisher is almost higher than the box section of the trailer (nothing however is bigger than the wheels ;) ) this lot, certianly a fringe element i would think, seem to like to squeeze their trailers into the smallest crags in rock walls and the trailers do appear to be well suited to that purpose.

i dunno, and im sure it's a horses for courses thing, but If i'm gonna tow a trailer, it may as well contain a Non inflatable bed!!! These guys seem to like towing AND sleeping on camp mats/air beds!!! I mean I spent my hard earned on a CT so I (or ashould i say, the Wife....) DIDN'T have to sleep on an air bed!!!!!What ever floats your boat I suppose...

As strange as the trend is, they are yank swaggers in their own right, and batting for the same team/ side we belong to ( outdoor recreational users of bush/ natural environment) in a world where extreme green and political correctness would have groups like ours banned from national parks/ state forests or see the end of 4x4's in city / urban areas.

Knowing how strong the NRA ( gun lobby) is over there, could you imagine how strong the yanks would be if their do gooders tried to ban 4x4 / trailer camping in their parks/ wildlife area.

National Swaggers Association - " they can have my camper when they pry it from my cold dead fingers"

They would probably have a swaggers national amendment.

" The right of the people to keep and bear/ use camper trailers shall not be infringed"

Swaggers Militia ( USA style)
