Fridges, weights, slides, sizes and shizzle
« on: October 06, 2011, 04:18:36 PM »
Well after lunch, and the recent offer of a cheap new in box Primus Fridge I thought i'd look into it. I wanted minimal fuss on the upgrade (wishful thinking its called) and to fit in my rear storage without too much issue... I have plenty of room long ways and some on top, but from memory, width will be the deal killer.

After some googling (lots from kulkyne kampers site) interesting size differences and weights on the ones I've looked at which means new slide, and possibly rebuilding the rear storage unit too (which fits it neatly into the TFH basket). Will have to measure up the storage tonight. I know the slide I have only just fits the 40 on it now :(

So looks like no matter what I upgrade to, none will fit in where the Engel 40 was :(

Are you able to make a dummy base, to suite the the fridge and have that bolt to the slide?
So long as you have tried your best, you should have no regrets.

We also had a similar problem ... trying to fit all those great fridges into our fridge box (pre-made on the camper ... chance of modification ZIP!).

There is always a work around .... We asked the manufacturer if they could "make" it fit our size requirements.  Sooooooo ... they suggested they could cut down the lid and base a smidge to suit us and it would cost us the same.

And then we found we were working on OLD measurements ... so check the manufacturers websites before you cross them off the list ... some distributors do not update their webpages often (except price wise).

P.S.  Our fridge still isn't as large as the slide width & length, it was height that was our issue (all the fridges are too blardy tall).  BF has made a timber insert for the fridge and put a shelf on one side for extra storage of smaller pantry items like salt, pepper ... the things you use often ... and added two upright slots at either end for alfoil and cling ... or at least that's the plan.

Lost. Not sure if they are measuring the handle on the Waeco but you can change that for a tie down mount. What I did was go to a shop and carry one out (they let me) put it in and see if I could shut the door.

Interesting development last night.

At a mates place, and looking at his Wako Dual Zone 50ltr. Gee, the freezer section is small :(
Apparently Anaconda will match any price - even on the interwebs if its an Aussie seller - by 10%. Hes done it with Ebay and a GPS, so worth trying fridge.

So infact it does become cheap... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/320654404370 minus 10% :)

The Waeco CF50 will fit as the length is only 630mm without handles and the width and height are smaller then the Engel

Don't know if I've missed something but why don't you just get a new Engel 40? wouldn't that be problem solvered?

the thought was to get something bigger. but with that comes mucho PITA..

My gear doesnt live in the car, so no handles would suck for fit/removal.... :( but not out of question

You said you still have plenty of room long ways, so the base of the 50 Waeco would still fit on your slide, with the handles hanging over each end

yea, didnt read it properly, had a "GLOBAL" manager in the office today from France..

I'll go measure it in a minute.

Edit.
Quick run with tape on the storage while in the shed on the floor (so not 1000% accurate, but close)
400wide
530 high
slide is 680 but can go 770ish if need be.

but that would be a tight fit all round... fridges need breathing space to work at their best.

Could you put a 12v fan like the computer fans to add or draw away the hot air?

Yeah I know more dicking around but hey if it keeps the refreshments and food cold while driving...........

Might just go a small 20/30ltr as a Second Fridge... Not going to rebuild the storage unit to fit in what I would like to get :(

ARB 47 Litre?

External Dimensions:   H508mm x W380mm x D705mm

Weight:   22.5kg

http://www.arb.com.au/products/arb-freezer-fridges/300range.php

According to their website the Bushman may also fit (albeit at 45 litre).

http://www.bushman.com.au/bushman-specifications

We have a Bushman and we find that really good as it comes with three internal baskets and you can set it so the very bottom is a freezer and the baskets up are used as a fridge.
