The last board I owned/sailed was an F2 sputnik 265 with a 6m sail I never used a sail smaller, the windier it got the faster it went!!

As soon as the wind reached 15 knot's I'd be on the water from the age of 14 till 24.

The most memorable days sail for me was on St Georges Basin on the NSW south coast, at the Naval base they were taking wind readings over 100km/h, I was struggling to hold down a 3.7m sail and there were roofs being blown off houses!

This thread is bringing back memories  :cheers:

I see heaps windsurfers go CHEAP on eBay e.g. Bombora Big Toy with 2 x sails and all gear in very good condition sold in Sydney for roughly $270.

A very cheap way to get back into a nostalgia sport from the 80's.

It's amazing how much windsurfer you can buy for very little money off eBay.

It is very tempting to jump back and buy an eBay special to relive my youth.

I lost out on the Bombora by $10

Yep I was a regular at Lancelin, Applecross, Pelican Point and Penguin island.  Here are a few pics for a laugh, pretty sure I am riding a Storm 8 in the picture (on mandurah estery). Started on a Bombora tri Fin and ended up with a few fibregass shortboards.  Actually bought an epoxy board and some sails second hand for a few hunderd bucks when I was in Tassi to rekindle the passion back in 1999 but only ever rode it a few times at Hawley beach before it went to Christmas Island with a mate and stayed there.  No pictre of windsurfing is complete without a picture of my ride that got me to all these places my first car, an original XM falcon wagon, the fish tank on wheels ;D

Great pics Burnsy. I think we sailed all the same places - probably passed each other other on the water!

I remember those stripey board bags; they were like a big stretchy woollen sock.

Stozz, do you remeber the German guy who use to sell hambergers out of a van at Applecross?  I still remeber the sour kraut or pickle or whatever it was he put in the burgers and maintain to this day they were the best burgers I have had.  Funnily on the opposite side of the river at Pelican Point the food van sold the most rank dried up day old pies you could imagine.

My daughters had a go at it a few eeks back at the Swan River and they loved it.
Only thing is those boards are expensive......

I have a SUP, Fanatic Fly Race 14'. Bought 2nd hand on http://www.seabreeze.com.au/. Lots of good boards there as plenty of guys upgrade often as the boards evolve!! I got a race board as I'm only using it on flatwater and the displacement hulls glide nicely. SUP is easy with zero learning curve, although developing good paddling technique takes time. Get a good second hand brand name Naish, Fanatic, etc. rather than a eBay generic. BTW, I had a windsurfer one back in the 80's....great thread.

Hey Wilsurf,

Yep, we have SUPs. Great fun as long as it isnt windy.  We don't use ours as much as we'd like to, but good fun in summer on a small swell and/or glassy day. East to paddle, great view looking down into the water.  I have even used mine with a (double-ended) kayak paddle and paddled sitting down.

Mike is right - there are loads of 2nd hand ones around much cheaper than new.  Reg at Windsurfing Perth in Myaree always has a good supply of new ones and several 2nd handies.  If you tell him what you're looking for he will keep it in mind when he is doing a trade-in with someone else.

Just noticed that this thread has been asleep for three years to the day - where does the time go....?
