Sorry busoboy, another licence ...Icant agree.Every driver has a licence and half of them cant drive, more regulation is not what this country needs.Perhaps if parks spent less time puncing around in aircon cruisers and putting up stupid bollards everywhere they might have time to catch a few idiots.
sounds like the wrong wombats were being buried....

makes me almost feel guilty that I camped next to a stunning river with my family, and one other couple with us, without anyone around me on a long weekend....   ;D
I dont mind going to work, its the 8 hours  i have to wait to go home again that annoys me.

I beleive we were camped right beside you and i am thinking that maybe no 5 is directed at our group and if so here is my explination. yes we did start a chainsaw in a national park but only after tightening chain and no wood was cut. All of our firewood was cut outside  of the national park and on private property.  If it was us who have ruined your weekend i do appoligise and I do agree with other remarks
on wombat hole etc we were quite disgusted ourselves.

Eddy

Hi Eddy, I don't believe it was you I was referring to. It was the numpty in the crusier who was taking slivers off the huge log and his neighbour cutting half a forest about a click up the road...........
I'll also confess my sins, I had a chainsaw which i know is not allowed in the park, but it was stowed in its carry bag as always because it lives in the camper.

Cheers

Brian I'm afraid I could never ever accept a decision to close off a section of National Park for whatever reason.

I agree that when camping in areas with relatively easy access, close to more populated sections of Australia, and especially during a long weekend, you are very likely to experience some or all of the characters which you described.

What's the Answer?

- In the case of National Parks, perhaps a greater presence by the National Parks Rangers during these peak periods, at all times of the day and night.  Not only would this boost the income from the exorbitant fees they charge, but a regular presence should deter any unruly behaviour. How often do you camp in National Parks where fees are charged, and don't see a National Parks Ranger for the entire weekend (did you see one on the weekend in question).

- Make the effort and find the spots which are harder to get to, but much less frequented by the Red Neck campers.

- Stay in caravan parks or privately owned camping grounds.

- Stay at home.

I know my solution is to try and find the out of the way, harder to get to camping spots particularly if camping during any peak periods.  I am very reluctant to go camping anywhere popular during long weekends or school holidays.

To accept the closure of a National Park area for 365 days of the year, because you had a bad experience is short sighted.  Remember, once these places are closed, it is more likely for the mighty Jesus Christ to return than it is for the area to reopen again.

I don't agree with it. I now just accept it and understand why......... :'( :'( :'(
Certainly aint happy about it......... >:(

It's sad...but they're out there.

Our Darwin factor occured at 1am this morning. I was sorely wishing I had on call a BK117 with a Night Sun installed. (thats a very big and very noisy helicopter with a very bright light FYI.) The entire place was quiet but then the bogans decided to show their true colours and up the volume of their music. Had they already been playing loud music the rest of the evening, we wouldn't have been too upset...however, everyone had gone to bed and all was quiet...and then for some reason, these people decided to up their music to concert level. Why?  ???

I swear...

They're out there.

And it will only get worse...

A BK117 with bambi bucket is better give the bastards a decent wash too.....

Although some of the residents around Leura had an issue with load music the other day, didn't like Ride of The Valkaries coming from the speakers on the RFS air commander's helicopter......

No sense of humour those mountain silvertails.....

It's not just exclusive to National Parks - we stayed at a small privately owned campground for the long weekend - well maintained and very relaxed rules - nice spot. Last night, some @rse puppet decided to take a dump on the floor of the ammenities block, only for some poor kid to go to the toilet during the night and step in it. D!ck heads - they're everywhere!! ???

It is encouraging to see that people are seeing what we deal with. It happens every where and many staff dispair at the necessity to lock up areas, believe me the damage that occurs behind closed gates is just as bad.A lot of this occurs to protect some from their own stupidity and to ensure we have safe trafficable fire trails. When we go to fires we spend up to 12 hours a day/ night for a week to ensure a fire is contained and safe and that exciting track for the 4wd driver is our work place and when they are ripped up, the first crews can be left unable to get our stock standard loaded to the legal limit vehicles past those washouts and remember we have to go back and forth constantly and that is adding to our chance of making a wrong move at the end of a long fire campain. We also suffer the parents that drop off under age children with alcohol for the weekend and leave them unsupervised till they come back the next day to pick them up, and we are supposed to have a magic spell to sort out those Richard craniums.
What you did by taking photos and rego numbers is pure gold and you have my appreciation and respect for having the courage to take a stand against the idiots, but take care as campers I have meet have been threatened by these bogans when confronted. I could go on to address a few of the other replies but that should probably be in a separate thread I will ask that those that knock should work with us over a busy Easter/Xmas/schoolies break and with our budget being shrunk every year and vacancies not being filled we do appreciate real solutions to the criticisms raised. :cup:

I find alot of them play Doof Doof.

A fortnight ago we were at a SF campground where no dogs were allowed (there was a second campground 4k away where they were allowed), only to have some Nobs (as we call them here) and a Huge dog turn up and bark it's head off for the first 30 minutes.  Once it quieted down, things were good though and you'd only have known it was there on occassion and the dog was restrained nearly all the time.

Then about half hour later some Nobs (as we call them here) who played concert loud music for hours and hours and hours.  Oh and it was the same CD over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.  When they finally turned it down around 8pm, a cheer went up around the grounds and they sheepishly turned it down further.

Bloody Nobs!

Kit_e

P.S. I think $5.30 pppn for a drop or flush dunny and a place to set up is really good, but I prefer to pay a little more for the private bush camping where the owner lives there.  No CVP's thanks.  Overcharged, sardine parks (as we call them here) is not worth the hot shower and pay phone.

Last time I was in Newnes on a long weekend everyone was fairly well behaved except for the couple who as a parting gift to the rest of us decided to drop all their rubbish in the toilet and block it up - Nice one, the other 100 or so campers thank you for your thougtfulness.

Also im pretty certain that the poor person that was charged to fix that little incident has marked you as a person of interest.

But I absolutly agree, certain camps need a bigger parks presence during peak periods. Im from NSW and I also am dissapointed that certain parks charge a premium for camping yet only supply a long drop or composting toilet. I am happy to pay to stay in national parks, but I would also like to see value for money, if I stay in a national park and it costs us $30 - $40 for the night then I want more than a ring of rocks and a composting toilet with a faulty lock on it.

I remember reading about an apartment owner who got payback on his noisy neighbours - went away for the weekend and left 'Macarena' turned up loud and on replay.  ;D ;D

I definately agree that the Ranger's need to be around a lot more on really busy weekends.

If not maybe a contact number that if these idiots continue that you can ring and give the ranger their number plate details for him to go and check out himself when they think he is not around  :police:.  Maybe that might get a few more booted out and they will hopefully spread the message through their swamp contacts. Remember I said hopefully  >:(

Although they are not just confined to National Parks, we have camped on a private property several times now and one time the owner also hired out the old shearing shed to a heap of city slickers(20 odd grown men) that turned up in their camo gear which was brand new as it still had the packaging folds in their shirts????  They also brought their big fourby utes that they proceeded to take out EVERY night to go shooting....which is prohibited on this property....honestly we thought they we a terrorist training camp from some of the things they were doing  ???......The final straw was shooting cans off the fence....yep the shots were being fired in our direction as we had camped down near the water and they were up in the shed.....how one of our kids didn't cop a bullet (yep live ammo too) was a bloody miracle......needless to say we told the owner and they havent been back  :cup:

For iPad and/or iPhone owners:

The Snap send Solve App (shows as SnapSolve on my iPhone) allows one to take a photo of some transgression. Then using the inbuilt GPS the App will determine the local government area, allow selection of the category of offence (from a drop down list), compose an email with photo attached, and then wait for YOU to press the send button.

The details & photographic evidence are then emailed to the relevant authority.  ;D
