Caravan and motorhome scammers target Australians during the coronavirus pandemic

Carolyn Robertson never saw herself as the kind of person who would buy a caravan.

But with a trip to Queensland cancelled in May and no international travel on the horizon, she and her husband Laurie figured it might be a way to get away once Victoria's lockdown lifted.

"I said to my husband, 'if we don't like it, what's the worst that can happen? We sell it again'," she said.

Instead, the Robertsons paid more than $10,000 for a caravan that never arrived from a website called Acecaravancampers.com.

"I emptied our savings," Ms Robertson said.

"It basically left us with nothing

It may have been covered in the previous 12 pages, but if not there are a few companies/websites advertising used tractors for sale.
These are generally only up to 20 years old, good brands, free Aussie delivery, and half the price of real ones.
There was one in Rockhampton called Russel's machinery but no phone answers and a drive-by of the address shows a vacant site far too small for the advertised tractors. Another one based in Melbourne with the holding yard at Boulia. Google Earth images of the addresses show part acre industrial sites. One called Efarmtractors is based at Eden, but a phone call to a neighbouring business advised that address is bushland.
The photo's shown have different backdrops and look to be from dozens of areas, but different websites have some of the same machines.
These people will take a deposit but are booked out 3 to 4 weeks in advance for an inspection quoting virus concerns. If you want a 6 year old 50HP John Deere with a loader and backhoe for $18 000 look carefully.

These same people have also been involved in scams relating to caravan sales over the last few months. I know of two losses, 10k and 18k, vans purchased sight unseen, never delivered of course.

If anyone is on facepalm you will have noticed the dozens of scam car and caravan ads, the dumb Shits keep using the same pics with mismatched details and ridiculously low prices.
Even seen tractors and bobcats used, i emailed one of the sellers just to get an idea of the bullShit they spin and its the same old defence force personnel offshore or cant leave the base because of COVID-19 crap.

Yeah, trying to find a post on our local group as an example, but cant find it now.

Some scammer  posted up a pic of a brand new Jeep Gladiator, advertised as a Wrangler, for $25k or so.

Within half an hour, one of the local members dumped a multiple screenshot of 12 different FB group adds for the same vehicle for sale, all exactly the same except the location.  The adds
were in groups based in every state of Australia....

What gets me is sheeple fall for this stuff....   ???

sure is, was just about to mention that

There is a post getting around on FB with a de-constructed LiFePo4 battery. Has ceramic tiles inside to give it a bit of weight, seeing it has bugger all lithium cells in the casing. How true that is...Dunno.

After a little advice/help.  I advertised an item on Gumtree.  A person has offered my the asking price.  I told them I would only accept payment via Paypal and they have requested my email address.  If that's all I give them, am I safe?
Thanks

Yeah the scammers are doctoring up fake car yards but most of the time none of the details match the so called vehicle for sale.

Yeah,
Cheers mate, I've always renewed through the Gov site.
4 odd years ago, I nearly got scammed.
Being busy & new to being a sole trader, something didn't seem right, so I rang the Gov site contact No, they confirmed it was a scam.

Possibly not a real scam, just an enterprising company that is happy to charge you $100 to fill in an online form instead of you having to devote 10 minutes of your precious time.
