Bagged Awning Instructions Jayco Eagle Outback
« on: September 28, 2011, 01:54:31 PM »
Gday All,
First time user of the forum and website, so please be nice.
Our family has recently bought a Jayco Eagle Outback 2010 model. We have only used it once, and discovered whilst setting up that we didnt have any instructions to set the bagged awnings up.
We did have plenty of time to set the camper up, and there is no dramas with that, but as you would know, time was getting on, the rain had started and I just managed to get the awning up. I am sure how I had it set up was not right (It was up, but not pretty, but did the job)
We have a the poles, no worries with them, but it was the knuckle connectors and how they connected in with the end of the awning, that I just could not get right.
I have seen a video on youtube with a guy setting one up, but our awning and fittings are way harder than that one.
Any help would be great.
Cheers
Matt

G'day and welcome to myswag,
We have a 2011 Hawk and had some confusion with our bed flys the first time we used them.
Our bag awning is fairly straight forward to put up. I have noticed that the bag awnings vary alot depending on what dealer you use. Some use Jayco, Kakadu etc etc, all seem a little different to how they go up.
What brand of awning do you have?
Do you have any photos of the knuckle connectors you mention?

Thanks,
didnt think at the time to take photos, going up the river this weekend, so will have another crack at the awning, and really didnt know that they used different awning types. Will take some photos of the connectors.
we didnt seem to have to many issues with the bed awnings, just the bloody main one.

Gday Matt Welcome!! With the bag awning most seem to not use the curved poles. Just put the 3 along the front. Seems to do the job. Phil

Thanks for the help.
Well last w/end took the camper away and setup awning.
There was no brand on it, but we got to the campsite early enough that I had time to set camper up and then grab a beer and work out how the awning went up. It worked well enough that I could spend the rest of the weekend not worrying about how to the bloody thing is going to work.
I will add some photos that I took of the awning a bit later this week once, bathurst, the rugby, the SANFL grand final and the japan GP is finsihed....LOL

Hi Matt, I recently just brought a 2011 Eagle OB. I also have the bag awning. What did you want to know? This could sound confusing but the first time I put it up it took me a bit but now I have it under control  :D

The way I set it up is let the awning out, wind the camper up a bit. Then put all the structure of the roof poles in & connect the 5 standing poles that hold it up but have them not tightened up. Then wind the camper all the way up & then you just tighten up the standing poles.

Thanks,
have you got the ones that have the connectors that get an extension that holds out a 300mm eave on your awning?
Ours has only 4 poles??
The way the ropes attach to the eyelets in the awning is a bit strange as well. They have little clips on the end, that dont go thru the eyelets. I am going to get some new clips to attach to the rope.

Does the awning and bed bed ends come with the ropes or do you need to buy them ?

I am quite surprised as to how much variation there is in the different bed flys and awnings that I have seen on different jaycos..
My setup is from alpine, and is totally different from the photos, and we didnt get any instructions either...
Looks like each jayco dealer has their own preferred supplier, and then there are the jayco factory ones too..

Yep, it is about how the dealer can maximise their margin on accessories

But can someone tell me if they generally come with the ropes with them?

Mine came with ropes, including the tension springs, pegs, all in a bag...
I got a bit confused the 1st time I put the flys and awning up because the awning poles are shorter than the fly poles.. I didnt notice it at first and mixed them up...

We got ropes etc with ours.
here are a couple of photos.
havent any trouble with the bed flys, trick is to put them together before pulling the bed ends out, heaps easy that way
