How to vent a fridge box ?
« on: September 21, 2011, 09:29:07 PM »
Trying to look around for a good external vent for my fridge box .
Because the box has good seals , no hot air is going to be getting out , I need to suck it out somehow .

Anyone got any good idea's or pic's of what has been done to their camper from the factory .

Cheers

Hi,
have you thought about using a computer cooling fan and a flat air filter from a lawn mower?

cheers

not if you put a chunk of foam on the inside as a filter.

I can get a solar powered marine vent , I'm just unsure how good the suction is , it moves 850 feet/per/min , I dont want it trying to suck dust in past the rubber door seals .

Hi,
suck air in through the flat filter, if you box is so air/dust tight that it won't vent the filtered air out again, another vent with a filter should suffice.

cheers

AORC Odysseys have the same system as sablesoft used.
Only they use two automotive filters, one on top of the box and one on the opening door.

Hey Rockman,

Knowing that you've got good fab people, I'd be looking to have them make a bracket to hold one of your car's airfilters in the box, as the dust filter for the fridge vent. That way you've always got a spare filter for the car if you need one.

Personally, I'd got with one of those little solar powered marine fans on top, and just a normal vent down lower, so you can take advantage of the natural convection effect to draw in cooler air at the bottom. You'd want filters on the inside of both vents, but that shouldn't be difficult. You *may* want some way to be able to seal a cover over the lower vent, for water crossings, etc. IE, like Teabag fabbed up for his Jayco door vent. Again, I'd expect your guys to be able to knock something like that out in their sleep.

I like Sablesoft's setup - I think you could get somethign pretty similar, and it would suit your requirements.

Good luck!
Matto :)

Did ya go with it? $150 for the vent is fawkin steep though. but a bit better than this one https://www.whitworths.com.au/main_itemdetail.asp?cat=156&item=92100&intAbsolutePage=1
