Why oh Why is top gear Australia so CRAP??

The hosts are wan#%^$, the test track is poor, and there style of reviewing a vehicle is how much sh$$ they can sling at each other.

Cheers

Agreed, won't be watching it any more.  Thought it had improved with Shane initiallty, gone back way downhill now.  Another free hour each week.

Can't comment, have given up watching it already!

If you watch some of the old episodes from the UK then the presenter chemistry (which, lets face it, is a major part of the show) took a while to develop.

Very hard act to follow, espescially with only a fraction of the budget.  The only decent episode was when the drove the Peels around the safari park in the UK, very funny!

the test track is poor,

Agree'd the Australin show is crap however having driven the test track in a number of vehicles I can tell you it's a very challenging track, certainly doesnt look impressive on the TV but it's a well designed track.

I think we only see corner shots and bits of the track as part of a very edited lap so it does not look like much.  Also, most of us can not remember the actual layout either.

I flicked the TV on the other night and saw some of the Australian Top Gear show. I must admit, it wasn't very scintillating viewing!  Clichéd comments, predicatble pranks and very limited on technical details about the actual cars, which resulted in very boring viewing.  I just got the impression that the guys on the show are trying just a bit too hard to be funny, all of the time...

In the episode I watched they were testing the VW Amorak against some Audi sports car, and showed the scene of the VW getting airborne over a crest about 5 times throughout the segment.  You can only assume they must have been short of some decent footage to show.

Although I would agree that the Australian version of Top Gear has big boots to fill when compared to their UK counterparts, the question of how good the Aussie show is has been discussed in detail on several motoring forums, and the general opinion is that most think it's crap.  On that basis I can't honestly see them continuing with it in it's current form.

Did anyone see them test the VW when they came to a locked gate, they hooked up a snatch strap & tore the chain off the gate, great example this sets. Rant end

LOL Russell. Every one knows a Russell :)

Look i think ripping the gate open as a stunt was pretty average but as u all know it was a set up.

to me what was more concerning was the car driving on the footpath through pedestrians and then with the road rage. The fact you could tell the gate was a set up but they were genuinely being abused it to me appalling. one to ch9 for airing it and 2 the blokes who were doing it.

I agree its probably not a good look for fellow 4wdz, however it too is a TV show like home and away, its not always monkey see monkey do!

Cheers!

Yep, agree its total crap.

They try WAY too hard to be funny and the fake laughter at each others jokes is cringeworthy.

TG UK is good for a couple of reasons, most notably the chemistry between presenter. Also, they show great cars. There's not too many episodes that don't include a supercar of some kind and they are actually very knowledgable about the vehicles and test them well.

I can't see TG AUS lasting more than another few episodes.

I'm a big fan of the UK show - at work I've got a Stig cup and I scored a Stig sticker that sits on the back of the Triton, but I just cringe when watching the Aussie one, it's sooo bad. If they were a bit more serious and let the jokes come naturally it'd be better, as others have said it's too predictable. I give it 2 - 3 weeks!

To be honest I don't mind it, it was good when James morrison came on board and better which Shane, if you could turf off that little bloke and get James back it would be even better.
When they started the show the producers did the stupidest thing possible and tried to make it like the original topgear, even down to who they picked as hosts.
I agree with markymark that it is all a bit too rehursed and forced and would be better if the hosts where a bit more natural.  part of the problem is that the UK blokes have it down pat and it does come accross that way most of the time.

Gee.... thats a shock.

Ch9 quoted "This is the second time Top Gear Australia has failed"

Gee.... thats a shock.

The series was first screened on SBS but went to Nine when they bought the rights to the UK version at the end of 2009.
the problem is highlighted right there.
