Comprehensive insurance, Coles v NRMA
« on: August 25, 2011, 01:11:56 PM »
A show on telly the other night got me thinking.  Insurance on the prado at the moment over $1000.  Coles, $680.  Agreed value with all options the same (windscreen, hire car etc).  Rang NRMA to see what the could do.  "well you can up your excess and reduce you premium by $6 a month, and we cover all glass not just the windscreen"  I'm getting both lots of PDS's sent out to go through them but they do seem pretty much the same.  Has anyone had any good or bad experiences with Coles insurance?

Coles will also give you a 12c off petrol voucher once a month.  Filling once a month (180 litres @ $1.47) would be worth another $255 above using the standard 4c off per litre.  Makes it very tempting

I used to pay close to $1000 with my GU for full comprehensive insurance.

I have since changed to to Wesfarmers (COLES) and I only pay $580 for 12 months now. I filled up the other day and saved almost $12 on that one fill up. I think there may be a 150ltr limit on the discount dockets per month. I didn't take out the windscreen or car hire with my policy.

NOTE: I have no afilliation with this insurance company.

Cheers
Rich

Interesting - I have a covernote on the GU (only had it 1 week) AAMI are charging approx $700 full comp for a 2003 GU ST-L.
Coles came in at $358 but obviously require a phone chat to cover accessories etc.

Will be giving them a call later on.
Rich - have you ever made a claim with Coles, are they good to deal with?

Gday Matt,
I found them easy to deal with over the phone too. What I did was an online quote listing all my accessories etc then call them to finalize everything with a Quote Number that was provided online.

I have never made a claim so I can't help you there. I think I had it set up so you need to be over 35 to drive my vehicle. I'll need to check my policy again to confirm that though.

The catch will probably be insured value with accessories, most of us have $10-15K worth of accessories they won't like.

That was my issue with them, and most insurers... the value of accessories was too high compared to value of vehicle...
Currently with RACV.. They arent cheap, but when I needed them to make a claim this year, it was piss easy.

Think I'll stick with my insurance company , after all we dont go to Coles or Woolies if we really want a Dentist  or a Doctor when sick or in need of dental care  why would you insure your car with a grocery shop ?

Agreed value includes all modifications and accessories fitted to the vehicle.

One thing I noticed in the PDS.  NRMA will pay the agreed value nominated on your certificate of insurance.  Coles will pay up to the agreed value

Well, coles is owned by wesfarmers so it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. Wesfarmers insurance is no backyard insurance company either

Just tried an online quote,

"Sorry for the interruption, we can help you better by phone" or words to that effect,
Won't let me copy & paste the text.

well get this, just rang them for a quote as I got that "error" message on line.  They will not insure vehicles with a computer chip fitted ???, no ifs no buts, steadfast will not insure you.  If however if I remove it, the quote was $570 vs $1,109 for my current insurer for the same value.

Guess what I will be removing ;)
Cheers Andy
