Motorbike rack

? Has anybody already made a motorbike rack on the forum before I get to far into my build which is my next project and unfortunately I have a deadline of 9th sept before my first trip away with bike and CT I have a drz400 and looking at putting a rack on the aframe of drawbar I've already got a plan of attack but interested If anyone else has already done something that I can possible use ideas from. At moment I've got a piece of C-channel that I was going to use and am going to make some rests for footpegs out of box which I'll clamp footpegs down on first hiccup after much thought and measuring channel may be to skinny by a few mm as rear tyre rubs while pushing through anyway post away pls

Hey I have made a bike carrier recently and Iv been wanting to do the same as yourself but dont have a camper atm. I made my carrier that goes into the tow hitch on my car. I did simerla to what you want to do using a piece of C channel but I wouldnt do it again.

Here is what i made as you can see I had to put in some extra bracing to stop the channel from twisting.







When I was deciding how to make my carrier I was tossing up this other idea and wish i went for it in the first place. Its all my mates fault cause he said it was too much wielding but it would have been much stronger and wouldnt have needed extra bracing.

Let me know how you go as im keen to see on put on a camper, but by the looks of things Im lookin at a Jayco trailer and iv seen them with carriers on the rear so ill be making one like that.

Hey mate thanks for reply I've started my rack on weekend and will upload some pics tomorrow night when I get a few more things done. I started with a piece of 150mm channel but it's to skinny inside for my rear tyre with a measurement of 135mm the back tyre doesn't fit properly so I brought some 75mm x 5mm angle I've spaced it out to 160mm using some 50mm x 5mm flat bar welded underneath ill be securing bike using some footrests for pegs to sit on and clamp down over pegs It will be easier to
Post pics than try and explain them I hope to have finished by end of wk and get it mounted on trailer. Cheers for your ideas

Finally worked out how to upload mobile pics so here is first few of my bike rack in progress
This was first idea but is a little to skinny for my motocross tyre fine for enduro/road tread

So I choose to use this which is 75mm x 75mm angle with 50mm flat welded underneath to create desired width they r both 5mm thick

These r foot rests I've made for pegs to clamp down on which I'll weld on tomorrow

And finally the bike that will be hopefully secured to trailer

Heres a couple more pics of how the rack is progressing I've got to finish it this wk coming as we go away after that and I want to take bike so deadline looms I've still got to commit to exactly where I'll mount it then make some plates and also make the cradles to lock pegs down

Thanks cruza drive bike rack looks awesome my bro made one similar to hang of the bum of his bus. That's where I got the ideas to use peg clamps the difference I was looking for was to be able to take bike of forward or backwards for ease while tents up hopefully it works I'll finish it today so fingers crossed it's good to see others have same idea to take there bikes on campers

Finally after a big day of welding grinding and drilling my motorbike rack is finished just finished spraying it and I'll mount and take finished pics tomorrow next job is to put bike back together after having to get subframe welded back together after accident a few wks ago here are a couple of pics and I'll upload rest tomorrow I'm really happy with outcome and can't wait to get away in a wks time with family CT and bike woohoo this is upside down ofcourse I used heavy grade threaded rod to make mounting bolts and plates out of 10mm flat bar I've welded numbers onto each plate so I know where they go as the bolts r welded in certain spots to line up with drawbar

I managed to move it forward far enough to let me mount spare wheel behind bike I'm also thinking of building a box for drivers side between bike and CT there is plenty of room to open door I need to make a stone gard that is collapsable I think
This is how the bike is secured to rack without need of tiedown straps I've welded a piece of 25mm box under front and back of rack to hook my ramp over I'll also weld some plate to this with holes drilled in it so I can tie bike down if I feel need to I probably will until I fully trust clamps this was a test mount before I welded bolts on was a good feeling to finally get bike on to rack on drawbar

ok i finally have a couple of pics of my car and trailer with the bike mounted on it we r going camping tomorrow to lowmead where i plan on doing some riding drinking and generally having a great time with family and friends im really happy with finished rack i just pray that the bike stays where it is suppose to and doesnt end up under the trailer going bump bump

Hey John yeah that's I lol I was doing a few Laps to see if bike would fall off no luck so far ? the dirt road to lowmead will test it a bit more we have had camper for a couple of months now been loving the luxury of a good bed got a growing list of mods over next few months before we travel the great ocean road in Jan first of which is brakes next wk I ran car over weigh bridge this morning and CT is approx 1ton loaded I've always intended putting brakes under it was just curious of weight very enlightening we dont really have anything special except the bike which is approx 150kg but still no batteries or genset and such I think final weight will be approx 1200kg anyway till we meet again ??

Already done about 700 klm in the past 3 weeks to bike comps and the bike doesn't move at all, though the hardest terrrain is a bit of rough gravel and corrugations. Actually the lions rd going down to NSW was probably the worst...

Yeah i was waiting for that! Due to the specialised and competitive design of the bike a seat would just get in the way and cause issues. Here's my bike in action if you want to get an idea of what i mean

Always had a softspot for trials, but it was the one discipline our club and most in Shitney didnt touch.. I had a TY80 as a kid... everyone else had YZ's, I got owned regularly Then got the XR75...

If you do a YouTube search for Toni Bou who is the current world champion you'll be truly amazed by what he is capable of.

And to keep it on topic, if I accidentally leave the fuel tap on while transporting it on the camper trailer, it doesn't flood! Unlike my box trailer which floods the bike every time the camper is clearly a smooth ride

Rather than start a new tread, I thought I'd resurrect this old one
I'm looking for ways of carrying my dirt bike on my Kimberley Kamper
Not too keen on adding more drawbar weight so looking for rear or top mount ideas
