« on: August 16, 2011, 07:54:03 AM »
WAS JUST WONDERING WHY THERE ARE NOT MORE OF THESE LIGHTS FITTED TO 4X4 VEHICLES
I HAVE ONE FITTED TO A TRUCK I DRIVE INTERSTATE AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT IN THE LAST 8 MONTHS
MY BOSS HAS SINCE FITTED THEM TO ALL 40 OF HIS TRUCKS
NO GLOBES TO REPLACE EITHER
SO WAS JUST WONDERING WHY THERE IS NOT MORE FITTED TO 4X4S

IF SOMEONE COULD ANSWER THE QUESTION THAT WOULD BE GOOD

Are they legal for road use? Thought the ads stated for off road use only?

I have one from VisonX and will be getting 3 more to replace my HID's on the bull bar.

I will admit thay are very diffrent to a spot light but ( for me ) the light it puts out is very usable. My brother has a 32" for the roof of his 80 series, mine is a 22'' on the top run of the bull bar.

I will have to try to get some photos of the the light out put.

I think you will find the general consensus is they are good for closeup bush work but not so good for highway type driving as they haven't got the range of a good spotty....even the mobs selling them will tell you this ( the honest ones anyway )

Darren, I'll buy it off you for a slab if it's no good !!  ;D ;D

I got it home all excited, connected some wires up to the ute battery and...... nothing. I would liken it to a twin 35 watt fluro. At 100km/h you would probably overtake your light beam..

Also they are " awesome for under steps" for drying puddles before you step out.

Wonder why the one on the bar lights up the ground 1mm from the car where the 75w ones are pointing to the space station... Awesome comparo... Im buyin.

Some brands are good, there was a comparo in one of the 4x4 mags a while back that showed varying results between brands.  Actually went for a drive Fri night with a mate who just fitted a Rigid industries 40" bar to his roof rack.  The HID spotties are good for lighting up a long distance down the road and the LED bar was fantastic at giving more light closer to the car and for pointing down into gullies, etc more than the standard headlights.  Ideal for the type of tracks we drive in the high country.  His bar was made of 10" of flood LEDs on each end of the light bar with the middle 20" being spot beams.  Without the HID spotties, the light bar exceeded the quantity, the spread and the intensity of light put out by his headlights high beam.  This was in a 100 series.

One thing you need to look at if you are comparing LED to HID. Nearly all LED's I have seen have been mounted on the roof and most HID's are mounted on the bullbar, so a 1m elevation improves light throw significantly. if you want bang for you buck get 4x Hella Rally 4000 compacts (2x cornering/fog, 2x driving type) mount on the roof and put 100w HID's into them.
Need to get the backside into gear and get out camping
