I'm sure years ago, ARB used to hand out a pricing guide to their customers.  I'm sure I can remember having one at home here, a few years back now though.
They do have em, they are on the counter in every ARB store.

Just not with the shop paid prices as part of that listing.

Although everyone would like to get things cheaper, fact of life is  everything has a markup..

You buy a set of brake pads from say Repco at $80.... they bought them from a wholesaler ( or importer)  for. $40.  And the wholesaler bought them direct from China for. $20.... that's how a business makes money..

Now if you could only buy them direct from China yourself.  ?????

But for a thing made in Australia. ( as in the bullbar for example. ) the markup was more like25 to 30%, not the 100% each time it went thru a set of hands as in the brake pads..

Still seems like a lot of money for a bullbar, but they charge what they think the market will bear!!

All this legal mumbo jumbo, most of us would be guessing as to the correct interpretation of this sort of documentation.  ???

If you're not comfortable or don't think its right looking at or downloading this stuff don't, your arguments as to why it is wrong probably won't change anyone's mind.

Isn't the law, just a guide to whats right ?

I think you're on the money Dean.

Garry I've got two here and have been searching high and low for them to compare prices.
I'll have another look.
Found one but it's a 2006 item and the prices are for the item  $$+$$ for fitting.
Would still be intresting to check if there be baiting us with that.
If anyone wants a cross refeance an old price, aRb side railand steps for a GU (4417140) were $925 +$140 for fitting =$1065  in 05

I find it interesting that the ARB document specifically adresses you and I the customer in its presentation and not the distributor. This tells me that this was not meant solely for the persue of the distributor. I don't think it was meant to have wholesale prices included though. That said, it is obvious that a lot of distributors upon learning of its 'leaking' would be pretty miffed.

The question as to the ethics of allowing a link to the document to be maintained is an interesting one. To delete any link removes the right of the membership to make an ethical decision. To not remove it brings into question the ethical position of the Myswag admin and mod crew.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

To that end I am editing the posts with links and removing said lnks. Any further posting of links to this file will see this thread axed.

The PDF is out there on the web so if you want it bad enough you should be able to find it.

Its cheaper and easier to do a small edit than redesign it for customers v stores, thus the dealers wouldn't give a rats bottom what the wording said "I/You customer".
now the original link is dead and a google search only brings up several forums with the original link, wonder what PDF storage place will end up with copies :)

Although the item may well be copywrite, I very much doubt that ARB corp would be taking an individual to court over it's use.

They would need to first establish that the breach had a financial gain attached to it.

The glossy brouchure you get at the store is copywrite also , You can give it whomever you like without fear of prosecution. So a price list is no different.

Remeber this is copywrite law not the secracies act . So there must be an intent or advantage in a commercial way for the burdens to be established.

Otherwise evertime we post a picture of ourselfs holding a can of coke ect we would be in breach.

Not saying the mods were wrong/right to remove ,just putting my 2 cents worth in.

p.s. it's copyright... its been published to the net so its freely available worldwide now.. seems there are some vested interests on this forum, I hardly see it being a grand secret that ARB ad at least 20% onto their own costs, its what business's do.

And I find it hard to believe they are operating at that small a margin anyway, could the dealer prices actually be for Toyota/nissan dealers etc. ?

It's really no suprise, ARB shouldn't be ashamed. Most automotive is 15-40% markup, this is just business.

They wouldn't prosecute, there's no intellectual property jeopardised and In my opinion, if anything - they have won through this little debacle - we're all talking about ARB... 8)

Why are some here shocked at a 15 -40% markup, as a business owner we have a regular mark up, of this type on our products that we sell.  If you take into account the running costs of a business, and most people don't realize what those costs are then you need this mark up and some times even more to break even or make a small profit.  If anyone has any questions on what it costs to run a SME then PM me.  ARB are only competing in a market that we all use and is competitive so most of these mark ups are industry standard if you are comparing apples to apples, but this is not always the case.

A few people seem to hung up on the markup % ARB appear to be using and bagging them for it but no one has mentioned their competition who would be in the ballpark retail $ wise.

.... add to that, with some companies paying shedloads less to have the stuff made up, but are making a larger profit.
