Phoenix by Robust Campers
« on: August 10, 2011, 01:34:44 PM »
Last week while out on the Harley I spotted this hard-floor camper heading the other way. I just about snapped my neck trying to get a better look at it as it passed. Gees that was a tough looking camper i though as i got a glimpse of the Robust sticker on the back.

So today Jill and I were back on the bikes and decided to drop into Robust Campers for a better look. Now I have known about John and Robust Campers for a long time. I have never meet John before but have come across some of his Alloy soft-floor campers in the past and they always looked pretty neat. John no longer makes soft-floor campers, instead he has dedicated 100% of his time to the Phoenix.

We arrived to find a Phoenix in the driveway and John came out to meet us or to see what all the noise was about as the Harley is not quietest. Anyway after some introductions John was more the helpfully at showing us over the Phoenix. The one in the driveway was his demo / development unit. It goes to the shows and has been the platform for some refinements to customer units. Out the back was a top spec unit that will be finished for the Rocky Camping Show later this month. This allowed us to see some of those refinements that he has done.

But what impressed me the most is that it only weighs in at 840kg! (Tare dry weight) That 200, 300, 400+ kg less than some other hard-floors. Plus another neat bit of trickery is the remote control setup. This is a great feature for campers like myself who suffer from Coldtinnyitus. (The condition where the sufferer always has a Cold Tinny in one hand.)

It has all the usual stuff you come to expect from a Top Spec Hard-floor camper. Fridge, Gas hot water, Shower etc.

So if your looking at a Hard-floor camper then add the Phoenix to your must check out list.

I hope to get back into a Hard-floor camper early next year so I too can feel the pain of others looking at buying a hard-floor camper. Which one? Aussieswag, AORC, Kimbery or one of the newer comers, Complete Campstie or Robust Campers. Oh the pain!

On my way back from the National Meet I hope to drop in and check out Complete Campsites new hard-floor. The only real way to compare campers is to see them in the flesh.

Cheers
Brett

We saw the Phoenix at the Brisbane Caravan & camping show this year, it's a great looking camper. The remote set up was unreal.

I hear that Coldtinnyitus is contagious...well it must be...cause I have had the same thing when I have camped with you
