A 13-year-old girl scout is missing in freezing conditions in a Victorian national park, despite an intensive overnight search.

The girl wandered away from a scout camp at Mount Erica, in Baw Baw National Park, in Victoria's east, around 10am (AEST) on Saturday.

Temperatures in the area stayed below zero all night.

Victoria Police, SES and Bush Search and Rescue officers and volunteers searched through the night for the Morwell girl.

Sergeant Don Beagley said conditions in the area were bitterly cold and wet and the girl, who had "very limited" bush experience, was only lightly dressed.

The search began about 4pm on Saturday.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Phil King said temperature in the area had reached a maximum of one degree on Saturday and dropped below zero all night, with moderate winds.

Spent last night out as part ot the initial SES search team, with Police SAR. Went up at around 7.00pm and came back out around 3.00am this morning. Still not found at that stage. Was down to around 1°C my midnight. Had a few hours sleep since and getting ready to go back up this arvo if needed.

Hopefully she will be found ok.

Yep Peter,
I would have been there too but I was at work last night.(Still need more sleep)
If it goes longer than today I will be there in the next team.
I just picked my son up from his scout camp. He was in the opposite direction to this group.

Not going to help now but I believe it should be madatory that all scouts carry a UHF handheld radio on all camps, Sure they are only good for a couple of Kilometers in range but can certainly help in this situation

A 13-year-old girl scout who vanished on a camping trip has been found alive after a night lost in Victoria's freezing Baw Baw National Park.

Police this afternoon confirmed Ashley Kerstjens had been located at Mount Erica, where she disappeared from a camp hut at 10am yesterday morning.

She was found at 4.30pm by a search team consisting of police, SES and bush rescuers who reportedly followed her footprints.

Police say she was able to wave to the helicopter crew who winched her to safety.

The teen, from Morwell, is in good health and was talking to her rescuers but was said to be very cold and hungry. She has been airlifted to Latrobe Valley Hospital in good spirits and was looking forward to being reunited with her parents, police said.

Ashley was found on the opposite side of the Mount Erica summit campsite where she went missing. The area is 2.5 kilometres from the labyrinthine Mushroom Rocks, where up to 45 rescuers had been focusing their search since 4pm yesterday.

The teen was on a camping trip to Mount Erica, in the state's east, with a scout group when she is believed to have wandered off on her own yesterday morning. Grave fears were held for her survival after it was revealed she was wearing only a windcheater, tracksuit pants, a beanie and light running shoes despite the sub-zero conditions.

A ground and air search included Ashley's father and uncle, a forensics officer with Victoria Police. She is set to be reunited with her family at hospital, where she will be assessed.

Good news - passed the police chopper at Morwell on way home tonight so assume she was there. No so good was the crash we passed soon after passing through Traralgon, several trashed cars and a motorcycle, in pi##ing rain, so news won't be good.

Take it easy out there,
