I manage 16 HTC Desires in the Dept and I have less trouble than the previous iphones, they are a very smooth operating system and dont need to sync with an external agency like the iphones have to.

I have a desire HTC and love it. I have loaded raster maps on it and for the past month run the maping from the phone without any issues to and from Cape York. The Android system have some great apps, some even better than the iphone systems.

Wilsurf, not sure what you mean, but I am assuming, you mean the phone. Its a HTC Desire, running android. Its not the HD model
Have a look at this thread http://myswag.org/forum/index.php?topic=11497.0
I am using an app called "Androzic" for mapping. It worked a treat whilst doing Cape York.

Is your HTC with Telstra ? If so how good was the signal strength on your Cape trip ?
I need to upgrade from my ZTE 165 which gets excellent reception and the HTC was the suggested replacement.

Wato, my phone is with Telstra and sat in  a craddle on the dash as we drove around. I was surprised when every now and again I would get reception in the middle of now where.  I phoned my mum from the actual tip.  Reception isnt everywhere, but I was surprised.

Thanks for that. Just a last question do you have an external antenna connected to the cradle ?

I looked at the ones from Carcomm. I don't like the idea of continually taking phone in and out of otter box so I haven't bothered but may do when we start to do a bit more remote touring when I pick up the 80 series...

The main function of the Carcomm HTC Desire Power Cradle (CMPC-146-AC) is to power and charge your device while you're on the move, and to hold it securely into its position. The unique and patented design of the active holder keeps your HTC Desire in place and protects it from being damaged. The antenna coupler allows connection of an external (car mount) antenna if required.
