GME UHF - mic control units
« on: July 26, 2011, 10:49:52 AM »
Hi all,
I'm looking at one of the GME's with the controls on the mic. (3440 or 3540)
One thing that I have noticed is that the speaker is still in the main remote head unit and not in the mic itself.  Prestige comms have confirmed this.   I am looking to mount the unit out of view and just have the mic with controls within reach.
Anyone out there got one of these units?
How does it go for voice sound if the unit is out of sight? (i.e behind console on trans tunnel).

The alternative for a mic controlled unit with a remote speaker (similar to handheld) is the Uniden UH7760NB, which is maybe where I'm headed now

Hey Nutto ive got a 3540. The unit is under the pass seat and i have an external speaker mounted under the heater control on the centre console.
Work brilliant.
I would say it would be very muffled without the ext speaker

I have a GME 3420 ( remote control panel)  with the main panel ( and mic)  mounted in under the dash in behind the centre console and even though I'm nearly deaf ( fair dinkum)  the mic is still pretty easy to hear ...

I know a couple of people with the controls on the mic and they both have complained that the controls are a bit fiddly to use ...one reason it swayed me to the 3420 ..

Ive got the 3440. No probs with the unit up under the dash.....can here it perfectly. I've been really happy with it. No issues with the controls on the mic and once you get used to which button is which, don't even need to look at it. I've had other radios and this is by far the best I've used to date.

Cheers,
Tim

Ive got a 3440 mounted under the passenger seat. I could still hear it perfectly fine, but the missus always complained the CB was too loud ??? Now I have an external speaker above the brake pedal area and its much better  ;D

I've got a 3440 under the dash with a remote speaker over the brake pedal. I can hear it fine but the wife cant hear it at times. I've also got a few extra chanels programed in which I generally listen to.

I have a GME 3440. The unit is mounted under the centre console, no external speaker. I have no trouble hearing it.
