Getting stiff whilst driving
« on: July 21, 2011, 09:13:17 AM »
What are people solutions for sore neck, back, etc whilst driving?  Has anyone tried one of those 12v massage things for the seat?

For those that still haven't gotten their mind out of the gutter - I'm talking about these:

dont know about mind in the gutter but when I used to get stiff I always thought it was a good idea to get out and stretch something;)  For some reason my wife used to think it kept me awake???;)

comepletely not what i thought this thread was about!!

anyway.. when i get really "stiff" i normally pull over and have a stretch, or adjust the lumbar support in the seat a little if i can't stop. i've used those 12v things before, but i felt it was more of a hassle, and ultimately it was safer to have regular stops anyway..

We usually get out, have a cuppa, stretch etc. Lasts for a while. Sometimes not.  We aren't in as much of a rush these days though.

Would they be comfy to sit on for any extended time?
I'm sure if you wondered into Dick Smiths and sat on one for a few hours they wouldn't mind ;D

Good thing about the Sigma.   While towing it only gets approx 500 K's to the tank, so you can't stay in the car  for too long. !!

Plus the missus refuses to rub any of the 3 stiff legs. !!!!! ;D

Wife bought one from aldi's a while ago. Found it annoying because getting in & out of the car, it'd keep moving 'round. I now lives in the back of the car till needed.
Other than that, it is good :)
Like others have said, I still rather get out, walk around & stretch, but good for when a particular un-named person "just wants to get there"
Our's can be adjusted for either bum, lower back, upper back, upper & lower back...you get the idea :)
Also has heat (3 settings I think)

Getting stiff whilst driving, reminds me of a conversation we had whilst out to dinner one night.  The wives would not believe my mate and I that there was such thing as a traveller ;D.  When I worked for main roads the crews would always try and find a female operator to run the vibrating roller as none of the blokes wanted to do it

I've found that if you are getting uncomfortable (avoiding the 'getting stiff' comment) then it is a good indication it is time for a rest.

Thanks for the responses about the massage thingies, I'll just have to tell my wife she'll have to do her duty and give it a rub!

Use to know them as a Travellers, :-[
Use to get them every morning on the way to school as the sun shone through the bus window.
I'd have to hold my school bag up close as I got of the bus. 8)

About 2 and a half hours is max before I have to get out and have a walk about for twenty minutes or so. My knees feel it worst.

You don't use magic to disappear, all you need is a 4wd & a Swag ;)
